Hey, I have just finished painting an Ultramarine model. The goal was to paint it to the best of my abilities. It gave me a lot of experience and painful lessons along the way. I think I have chosen a pretty gakky posed mini for a challenge like this, since it is leaning forward a lot, making it hard to take the photo from the front.

I am looking for feedback and critique - especially if it is harsh and honest. All I want is to improve at painting, since I am not playing the tabletop, only modeling (I find it to be the best method to de-stress in the evenings ).

If you have any questions about the mini I would also love to answer them!

Some additional info:
- took around 20 hours in total with base to complete
- painted in subassemblies
- painted only using brush, no spray can, no airbrush
- base is made with cork, milliput, sepia ink, some pigments, aggrax earthshade, citadel technical mud, and some battlefield terrain rocks (I think those are made out of cork as well)
- it is my first space marine painted

Great job.
Im afraid I dont have much to add in technique.
However I would expect him to have some markings on atleast one of the shoulderpads.

The blue is really well done and clean, so I guess the next step is to break it up with subtle weathering and battledamage
Also, adding some colour/marking to a kneeguard is a simple way to make the model "pop".

Also really like the base. That rock looks absolutely convinsing and work really well with the clean power armour.

Thanks for the feedback! The knee in different colour and marking is great idea, I should have done that, and will do that on the next space marine. I bought Micro Set and Micro Sol yesterday so hopefully it will work . Weathering is something I want to try as well but I was afraid to do it here as a test.

This rocky base was the most fun thing I have ever done in modeling - just putting random stuff in random places, including random leftover paints from wet palette, and it starts looking more realistic. It was also quite quick to do overall, maybe 2/2,5 hours combined, across 2 days to let milliput dry.
