Hi all,

had a game vs Astra Militarum today, and think I got cheated on a ton of stuff, so would like some input on the situations, from both the AM players and those who played against them. So here I go:

1) first thing, he is packing Death korps of krieg (henceforth DKOK) as infantry choice, and he somehow has FNP 5+ as well as d3 models revival - Where TF does the 5+ FNP come from?

2) combo unit - DKOK has an ability to be bodyguards for two leaders, so he attaches both Leontus and the Platoon command squad to one unit, the goal being that Leontus can then use the Master Vox ability of the Platoon command squad and issues orders up to 24" away. Reading the ability it reads: "Each time THE officer in the bearer's unit issues an Order, it can issue it to an eligible unit up to 24" away."

So, here I emphasized THE as it means one officer, and in the best case scenario for the AM player either Leontus or the Platoon command squad can issues orders up to 24" (as it states THE OFFICER, not AN OFFICER), whilst the other one can issue them up to the standard distance.

Also, does the Master Vox ability translate to leontus at all? I mean, the "bearer's unit", but the bearer's unit is the Platoon command squad - when the DKOK bodyguards are KIA, the Platoon command squad separate, they don't stay in the same unit - so does the combo work or not?

3) A DKOK bodyguard has a commissar attached, all the DKOK guardsmen are killed, but because it is the same attack (10 saves needed to be made) he retains the enigmatic 5+ FNP (point 1) for the remainder of the attack which the DKOK had.

Thoughts and explanations welcome

A Death Korps Marshal gives the attached squad a 5+ FNP. Can be attached to DKOK and Infantry Squads.

While a Platoon Command Squad is attached to a unit, the entire unit is part of their squad. It does say "the Officer" but given GW's track record with technical writing, I have no idea what their intent is.

A Leader is considered part of their unit until after the attack that killed the Bodyguard squad is completed.

Is the mentioned Death Korps marshall a battleline unit? Or is there any other way to have five of them in a list?

I'd say intent is irrelevant, as it clearly states THE, so RAW the player can select which is THE officer that gives the order up to 24", the other one can do it up to 6" as standard.

No, you couldn’t have 5 Marshalls in a list.

And a model without FNP wouldn’t retain it after the Bodyguard 7nit granting it had been killed.

Sounds like all kinds of jank. Assume positive intent and assume they got it wrong. Ask them to explain how and they’ll likely find as you go through together what they did isn’t permitted.

Regarding your second point/OP's 3rd point, Leaders retain their "while leading" ability until the attacking unit which killed the bodyguards has resolved its attacks. This is in the Rules Commentary.

Hi there. I figured I would chime in as this is a minefield of rules interactions that can easily be confused.

First off the d3 model revival comes from Death Korps Medi-pack of the DKOK unit.

As noted by others, a Death Corp Marshal unit has a leader ability that grants his squad a FNP 5+. This is most likely the source of that mysterious ability.

Also note that the Platoon Command Squad in the next question can have a Medi-pack that grants the bearer's unit a FNP 6+. This can be the source of more FNP rolls for his army.
2) combo unit - DKOK has an ability to be bodyguards for two leaders, so he attaches both Leontus and the Platoon command squad to one unit, the goal being that Leontus can then use the Master Vox ability of the Platoon command squad and issues orders up to 24" away. Remember that a "While a Bodyguard unit contains a Leader, it is known as an Attached unit and, with the exception of rules that are triggered when units are destroyed (pg 12), it is treated as a single unit for all rules purposes". This means that the DKOK Bodyguards, the Platoon Command Squad, and Leontus are considered to be the same unit for all rules purposes. As Leontus is a Officer in the Master Vox's unit, he benefits from the rule despite the poor grammar of the rule (the instead of a).
3) A DKOK bodyguard has a commissar attached, all the DKOK guardsmen are killed, but because it is the same attack (10 saves needed to be made) he retains the enigmatic 5+ FNP (point 1) for the remainder of the attack which the DKOK had.
This is correct as noted in the rules for Attached Units in the Rules Commentary.

This is also a good time to mention that if you are ever in a game and you don't understand what is going on, stop play and have your opponent explain it to you. They should have no problem both explaining the source of their abilities and showing you the rules for you to review. That avoids frustration and a need for Monday Morning Quarterbacking on the forum
