As title.

I have always read a lot of good things about the game and when I looked up some of the expansions I see a lot of people claiming Ix is just flat out core game improvement. No reason not to own it. Anyone have experience with the game? Expansions? Personal reviews to share?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

That's the deckbuilder one? We played it once, nobody asked to play again. The chief innovative card mechanic revolves around telling you what you can't do (via the location type icons on the cards) which, coupled with space blocking inherent in worker placement games already, means you spend your off time just trying to figure out how to do something useful with your hand through two independent layers of "no you can't" and nobody saw that as a good time. When we play Dune, we play the original board game that's basically an alternative Dune movie script generator and never fails to provide memorable cinematic moments and is more about bluffing your opponents than maximizing your payoff around a random move restriction generator.

If you want a fantastic deckbuilder with a map, see if you can trade it for Tyrants of the Underdark (which combines deckbuilding with Risk, rather than Agricola)

It is the deckbuilding/worker placement one.

Interesting take. I have seen a lot of positive feedback. Good to see the opposite side of the spectrum as well.

I can understand what you mean about 2 barriers to overcome to place workers.

I was less interested in it for Dune and more interested in it because we have been on a bit of a worker placement kick (Lords of Waterdeep and Everdell have been in our circulation recently).

Love Lords of Waterdeep to death, probably tied with Battlestar Galactica for most hours played in our group. Unfortunately I can't give any other suggestions if the worker placement part is what you're aiming for.

I did notice there is a crowdfunder with late pledges open by some of the authors of both Lords of Waterdeep and Tyrants of the Underdark but it's a wholly different type of game
