Before I say anything else: I'm fine. No one has forced me to do this; I'm not being blackmailed or coerced.

I had over 3k points of models sat round gathering dust and I know at the rate I paint it'd take me years to get through it all. So I made a better resolution - paint what I have and then buy more. It's all listed on eBay at the moment and, to be honest, it feels like a really healthy decision. It's like a burden has been lifted. A burden I gave myself.

After getting out of the hobby during 7th, I'm back for 10th. I had a go at Space Marines but they aren't for me. I miss my green bois. So I'm going to pick up the Ork combat patrol - and only the Ork combat patrol - paint it, play a few games, then work on 1000 points.

At least that's the plan

Recognizing what you will realistically use and ridding yourself of stuff you realistically won't is a very healthy plan.

That's just what someone being forced to do this would say!!!!

Though in all seriousness sounds like you've got a very good plan! Heck I've been selling off some parts of my collection because I just never got around to building anything from them and realised that I have so many plans and ideas now that I was just not going to get to them for years. So I kept a few that were really special and sold the rest on, which freed up money for me to spend on hobby I was doing. Normally I'm one to store a hobby until it comes around as an interest again, but for miniatures that need paint and building to "work" I feel that it can be releasing to sell off the "overhead" of an unbuilt collection. It releases you from the burden of the unbuilt, to enjoy what you get now to build and paint.

I do always advise taking this slowly if possible. Ergo don't just sell it on a whim over the weekend, be sure its really what you want to sell and soforth. But yeah it can be a bit of a motivational spark to take control of the hobby and limit yourself/clear out the old and focus on the new

For a second I wondered If I just bought your Fire Warriors but it was a Canadian seller.

I sold my only unbuilt kit, a box of Necron Warriors, to my brother's friend who built and played them.
Well, I do have a Bradley and Abrams still waiting to become a Chimera and Russ.

Dakka's Dive-In is the only place you'll hear what's really going on in the underhive. Sure, the amasec is more watery than a T'au boarding party but they can grill a mean groxburger. Just watch for the occasional ratling put through a window and you'll be alright.

I have found that selling off or even giving away "indefinitely paused" projects is very good for the soul.

This is exactly what I'm feeling - having all those minis waiting to be painted felt like a chore, now I'm excited to have a clean slate and take things a bit slower!!

Not me, I'm neither Canadian or American (I can't figure out how to change my origin country).

That's another thing - the models I had felt wasted sat on a shelf. At least now they've got a much better chance of being built and used!

I did keep a couple of bits for bigger projects that I've been planning but the bulk of my pile has gone. Or it will go when I take them to the Post Office tomorrow morning.

You know, you can say what you want about GW’s prices, and there’s a lot to say.

But at least their goods tend to maintain a decent resale value.

Your pile of shame wouldn't have happened to be a 30k blood angels or thousand sons army would it?

Very true - or you can split up a box and sell each mini for £10 on eBay

I've been doing this for the past few years - just clearing models I will never be using. It happened so, that all the crap was worth around 10k euros

Did you have to buy a separate house just to keep them in?

To be fair before GW brought Old World back a lot of those models, esp if new in the box or at least on the sprue, went up to rather insane values if you sold them high. Same for some classic sculpts.

Whilst many settle to a lower value than the current, some older sculpts climb high, esp metals which are easily stripped of paint. If you've got Diaz Deamonetts then they are insanely priced if you can sell them on.

Nah. It just conveniently happened that most of the stuff oop and people were willing to pay several times of what it was originally worth. Like some Middle Earth dice I bought back in the day for 8 euros, never happened to use them with the army I wanted and people paid 60-70 euros per pack on ebay, etc

That's why selling crap you will not be using is a good option, as you not only end up clearing models you no longer need, but can also make a profit out of it. Buy more models that you know you will be using. And still have some money left

I wonder whether they will increase the amount of made to order availability to combat this (once they sort out their existing supply issues)?

I know a lot of people buy Lego sets and then sit on them for a while as they go up in value, not sure I'd want to risk doing it for 40K stuff though!

Perhaps, but the value of the second hand market on old stock doesn't really concern GW, otherwise they'd have Diaz Deamonettes in long term production.
The only secondhand market that GW worries about is the scalper one on limited stock releases because that one does leach money out of GW and also fans on current, hot-purchase items and generates a lot of bad faith/negative marketing for GW.

I dunno how concerned they are about it TBH - a lot of the Christmas sets evaporated as soon as they were dropped at the end of last year
