Hello there, returning tabletop gamer here.

I played between about 97 and 2006, then for some reason that escapes me now I stopped playing. I played GW games, mostly fantasy and blood bowl, but also tried 40k, necromunda and the old west. I enjoyed painting the models just as much, if not more than playing the games.

About 6 months ago I decided to pick it back up, mostly just to paint up a few models and give me a bit of a hobby. I picked up Cursed City and a few paints to get me on my way. Wasn't too bothered about cursed city play but loved doing the painting again. Since then I feel like I have spent the GDP of a small country in my local Warhammer shop, but also managed to get my wife and 10 year old son in to collecting and painting their own warbands for Warcry. That's the only thing I'm playing thus far, I prefer the shorter skirmish games, not sure I have the stamina for entire afternoon battles at this stage of life.

So yeah, I got back in to painting and the bug hit me hard. Lots of new toys and shinies to play with since I last painted. It was all layering when I did it before, I think GW were just releasing washes? shades? something as my time was drawing to a close. Now there are wahses, contrasts, technicals and stuff to play with. I'm trying to have a go with most while also getting my eye back in for painting.

I'll get some pictures up of the things I've painted so far when I get round to taking some pictures. Which photoshare websites do people recommend nowadays? Is there any that really stand out?

Anyway, thanks for your time reading

Until we meet again *doffs cap*

Hello and welcome back to the hobby!

Yeah you're right, there's a lot of new kit out there and with stuff like contrast it's never been easier to paint stuff up to a good-looking tabletop quality quickly. I do generally find that's counteracted by how most models are now dripping with bling that you just can't quite ignore though...

Thanks, that seemed simple enough until they were all laid on their sides. I've managed to sort it out now, teething problems.

Haha yeah, the new models have so much detail, buying a wet pallette was a solid choice, I spend half my time going back over tiny details that I missed first, second, third times round, the paints staying wet has saved me hours of opening pots I've already put away and thining down for a millimetre of missed paint.

Thanks for the welcomes everybody
