How do you build you inf detachments for the Solar Auxillia. Is it better to have the veletari and the ogryns as support or do you attached them to your riflesquads.
Its the same quistion for the spacemarenis, plasma and misslelaunchers as support or attached to your tacticals??

for SA here I've taken the basic troops, and attached the Ogyrn, then combined all the axe nutters into an eight base support unit (starter set and one additional box)

has given me four units of four with a pair of flamers and a pair of Ogryn in each for eight bases, then either a pair of four axe nutter units if running two formations or a single larger one if running one

figure the nutters work well on their own and distract a lot of attention, while having the Ogryn in the infantry provides them with spare bodies adjacent to take the hits and making those units a bit harder for marines to clear through assault

for marines its currently four bases tactical, two plasma and two missile as thats the mix of models I have, currently working on a six base missile unit, have six bases of assault bods which I'm finding is ok to jump on smaller enemy units acting as a sort of goal keeper sitting back on charge orders, but is too small for offensive uses

IMO for SA, Ogryns always as upgrades of tercios. So they have plenty of cheap ablative wounds. Otherwise they won't reach combat.

Veletarii on the other hand, are not as expensive as Ogryns and have some shooting, so I deploy them on their own.

Anyways. Big detachments, otherwise they are going to start (and fail) to chek morale soon and bye bye!

Misisle Launchers in both ways. With normal SM for ablative wounds, AND also independently because they are too good for their points.

Oke so for the ogryn you attache for more bodys to soak hits. Would you take 8 flamers to clearout buildings??

no, I'd stick them into lasrifle units, similar reason, its extra bodies and spreads them out. one unit, especially one that has to get close is going to get murdered

note this may change when transports arrive and they can actually move up, dismount and fire in one turn

I've had success sadly just taking naked tercios with at most maybe a couple extra flamers. Veletari or ogryns on their own don't have chain of command and as such don't need to concern themselves with sticking close to an leader.

I do see some advantage to having a few veletari or ogryns on occasion but I tend to prefer them on their own. Only benefit to putting them in tercios is the larger detachment size possible if there's concerns about morale or you just want to be able to swamp target detachments. .

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Ive played them as there own squad and in cc they can kill and survive. But if you need to walk in the open or strand in the open your death. so will field them in the next game as ad ons will see how they do.

We finally got our 1st real game in this evening .
(The others had to build/buy enough stuff - complicated by availability)

I put the ogyns & axe guys into thier own full sized units.
While they did have to March through the open t1 we had a bunch of Los blocking terrain. So they weren't too exposed en-route.
Some Thunderbolt air support also absorbed and then eliminated a major shooting threat to them.
Turn 2 they both took some shooting casualties but got to charge with the majority of each unit.
Each of thier targets were virtually erased & the left flank was mine.

For our next game I think I'll play around with mixing them into the las tercios.

excellent, and yes the way you set a table up seriously changes the answers to this, the specialists are evil in their own units if they get into combat/range to do their thing

glad it worked, and very much best way is to mix it about and find out what works locally - while also making it harder to predict what you will bring thus harder to counter

Oh, predicting what I'm bringing is the easy part - virtually everything I own for a 2k game.
Until my Slaughter stuff arrives the only real question is: Will you see Avenger Strike Fighters or Lightnings? You WILL see Thunderbolts + one of those other two.
In a few weeks I'll have a Reiver & two Warhounds ready to use. And hopefully my slaughter stuff....
