Looking good.
Magging causes more painting, but those colours go well for the model

Does it have ball-joints or are they flat (it looks bally in the photo).

Ball and socket joints.
I use a 1mm drill bit with a hand vice drill into the socket and then 3-5mm drill bit with my power drill, then superglue in the rare earth magnet.
Then position the arms and with a drop of paint on the magnet work out where to drill on the ball joint of the limbs.
Repeat process with the hand vice and main drill. The superglue in the magnet and press against the socket to lode the joint up, and push the magnet in the limb to the correct depth..

Couple early problems (the scything talons) but the rest worked ok.

Sounds familiar. Ball sockets are much nicer to work with, friction and all that. Drilling is where it gets messy, so paint spots sounds like a good idea.
