So a bit undecided about how to do an urban board for LI. Seriously considering the TTCombat tiles (https://ttcombat.com/collections/sci-fi-x/products/pre-order-dec-1st-imperatore-tiles), but haven't found any actual reviews of them yet. Anyone else used these, have any views on whether they're worth it / how well they work?

Slightly disappointed that they make a 5x4 not a proper full 6x4 table, but that isn't the end of the world I think.

Main alternative is the Deepcut titanicus mat, which looks good and has the advantage of being usable without any effort (!) but you are then stuck with the road layout as it comes. Plus I think I like the idea of having the little bit of depth to the roads that you get with the tiles.

Just to cover some of the obvious, the GW tile were never a consideration and I have other mats to cover different terrain - looking to do a siege of terra setup so want something heavily urban to use.

Thanks!

I'd recommend the 6x4 urban titan from table war https://tablewar.com/products/6x4urbantitan

It will allow you more freedom than the tiles. It will let you play 6x4 and 5x4/4x4 for smaller games.

I also wouldn't recommend pigeon holing oneself into only urban environments. Structures that aren't occupied are treated as open terrain to infantry, and it can lead to some less than desirable outcomes game-wise as infantry can march 15 inches or charge 10 inches, and they can do this out of los on account of just melting right through un-occupied structures like they're not even there.

So a good variety of big impassable terrain and area terrain is worthwhile to have in addition to structures.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

I don't see the need to invest in a mat or tiles specifically for this game.

The one small shop where we play has a generic green drop cloth + 1 urban 40k mat. And a good amount of 15mm WWII terrain.
We just change the scale of the terrain we use.

The other larger shop has dozens of different mats in all colors/patterns/sizes.
Sadly they don't have any LI specific/15mm scale terrain.

At home I've got a number of mats & all kinds of terrain.
I've got stuff that works. Even if it's not LI specific.

Hadn't seen that mat before, thanks. Though, how do you reckon it has more freedom than the tiles? - can easily make a 4x4 with the tiles and can at least switch them around to make different setups of the roads etc? At least that was my thinking. Lack of 6x4 is a definite downside, but I have other mats and scenery I can use to run games of that size however.

Totally agree about not being pigeon holed into just urban, as I said in the OP I have other mats and terrain bits I can use in 6/8/10mm. But for me terrain is as important as the models, and I like having themed "sets" of scenery and I definitely want one properly urban - siege of Terra - setup for LI / AT. Just trying to work out how best to bring it to life without scratch building everything!

Fair enough for you, however I do see the need - I mean not "need" really more just something you know, for me, that I want to do. Question isn't should I do it, its just how best can i do this? - had been hoping there might have been folks who've done similar who might have had advise...

I've personally gone for generic-ish mats that I can use for many games:

I still had one of the old GW flock cloth mats, which is pretty great and durable, and just bought one of GF9's double sided neoprene mats (desert, gree fields), which is very useable on almost any circunstance. I also have a number of PVC ones I ordered made directly from a printing service for like 10 euros each (4'x4', jungle and urban designs, less generic ones).

I can then add tiles or whatever else on top to make urban zones if I so want, which works pretty well for me as a fully urban zone is usually less interesting, in my opinion.

Plus, all the mats I have can pull at least double duty.

I dont like the tiles becouse the have those holes in them, so i would go for a mat this can be of anny color and you can do some latexs roads on them or some printed roads.
