It seems a pretty easy counts-as. As long as you are not using actual tacs.

Of course, check with your actual opponent, or TO if going to an event.

On the other point:
Actual tactical marines have more transportation options? Sometimes you want a rhino full of marines (spiced up with some nice guns) rolling up the field?

I'd say Tacticals as Intercessors is the future. Looking at how the Marine range is going since 8th there'll be a point when there are no tactical Marines in the Codex anymore. People will use their models as Intercessors and other Primaris stuff then.

Agreed and looking forward to it. I currently go the other way and pretend that my Alpha Legion intercessors are firstborn, so I think you're fine. It should really only be confusing if you're fielding actual tacticals at the same time.

Friendly games: From a counts as, who cares.

Competitive games: It's modeling for advantage. Different base sizes, heights, sculpts, etc. You will have a very hard time getting these past a TO in competitive settings.

Tbf, you could always just put them on bigger bases. Heck, if you put a firstborn base on top of a primaris base, you'd probably be pretty close in height too! It has been a while since I played in any tournaments, but I think that sort of thing would have gotten a thumbs up in the RTTs and GTs I attended in the past.

Modern firstborn are on 32s, same as most primaris.

Not sure how measurably shorter the newer HH scuplts are either.

MFA should be trivial if present.

I could see more augments about tiny RTB01s on the 25mm bases, but anything produced in the last decade should be fine.

Don't look at me like I'm the guy in the wrong here. Literally every time this topic gets brought up, it's someone trying to get moral permission to do something MFA. All I did was state the obvious facts.

Friendly games with people who don't care, Go ahead.

Competitive games with TOs, check with the TOs, because it might be construed as MFA. And yes, there is a size difference.

It's largely irrelevant with heavy ruins terrain.... which is why everyone plays on heavy ruins.

Main thing is to make sure they're on 32 mms.

Tacticals get Heavy and Special weapons, and if you lean in to that you can use them to add a lot more punch to your firepower, particularly against heavier targets, while still serving the basic battleline function.

And you can really troll opponents with their ability to Fall Back, shoot and charge.

That pic is significantly dated. There has been a lot of scale creep in the HH line.

FOs might have an issue with it as they are technically not WYSWYG, and a counts as. That is a more valid argument. People see tacticals, get intercessors. Modern HH marines are maybe a mm or two shorter then primaris. The amount of MFA present is truly minimal. Primaris are basically just a different armor mark compared with the most recent firstborn.

+ a bit of scale creep. But thats been happening since RT & nobody ever cared that Marines of different editions (or sometimes within an edition) varied by a few MM.

Why would you do that? the size of the bolt rifles would cover the torsos to the point of making the choice in model pointless. Youre better off asking around for space intercessors (which everyone has) and just swapping heads like the new Sternguard already do. You can probably find the shoulder pads equally as easy.

Bolt rifles on tacticals, especialy the older one makes them look as if they were running around with a LMG version of a Heavy Bolter.

Oddly enough primaris with HH arms and bolters look suprisingly good, and the set up fixes a lot of their gigantism problems.

One bummer about "tacticals" is that the old faction models for marines looked great and were mind blowing good kits as far as what is in the kit. The Blood Angle tactical box, the DA veteran box make one feel bad when buying primaris kits. But who knows maybe in 11th or 12th ed, intercessors after two editions of sitting it out, will get the option to take MM, pyroblasters, hellblasters, las talons etc and people will want to run them, making the tacticals in to intercessors counts as more of a thing to worry about. Although this is 8+ years in to the future, who knows how or even if w40k is still going to be a thing for some players.

BT crusaders are great "tacticals", because they can get all the benefits and some more, without the need to take 10 tacticals that can't fit in to a razorback.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.
