I've been wondering this for a while, but with the new Tau dex, it's the first time it's actually become directly relevant for me.

So, the new codex came out in the Kroot Hunting Pack box, however, the official full codex release will come later. So, in the interim, is the codex technically unreleased, like, do we still have to use the index until the full release? I've been playing casual with the new rules, but I'm talking semi-competitive.

If we can use the new dex, do you use the points as written in the dex until they get changed, or do we use the current MFM points? Ether way you swing it, some stuff is going to be way over or under costed...

Just wondering what the general consensus was on this kind of this since a qucik google search got me nowhere.

Thanks.

GW considers the Codex to be tournament legal when on release date of the standalone codex release. Until then, you are playing a pre-release product.

GW provides no guidance on how you should utilize the new codex in relation to the old codex points values provided in the current MFM. They will release an updated MFM when they release the codex that will update the points of all the units. Expect those points to look like the current MFM points unless a unit has undergone significant changes between the Index and the Codex.

So Strike Teams are likely to still be 80 points for 10 models, but the new Battlesuit units will certainly not be the 200 points for 3 models that Crisis Battlesuits are in the current MFM. Whether they will match the Codex values is anyone's guess.

Just use the book. If it’s casual, a slight imbalance isn’t a problem if the game is fun. If it’s competitive the TO should give you the decision. Semi-competitive isn’t really a thing, but if it means a group who play tourney spec all the time then… ask them for consensus? The book is out and legal and strangers on the internet can’t give you an answer.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Exactly the kind of clarity I was looking for. Thanks a bunch!
