I used to be a huge Confrontation fan. played a lot of 3rd and 3.5, even did some of the prepaints. I still have fully painted 3rd ed Lions and Wolfen warbands in my closet. 10 years ago this would have probably really excited me, but at this point, just let it die.

Almost feels like a bad penny, at this point. But Monolith has shown they can get a game out, their minis aren't half bad, and I love Confrontation. So...here's hoping?

Fingers crossed its now in better hands than the last people who had it!

Honestly since Rackham closed it seems the best hands its been in for years were the recasters in Ukraine (who are now doing their very own model line and game - Signum - and honestly seem to be doing really well with it both in physical and 3d print products).

So I'm fingers crossed that Rackham can move out of the darkness and into the light.

Though its going to be a tough hill to climb considering how many big fans will have been burned hard by that disaster of a Kickstarte r

Frankly, as it is Monolith, I'll be all in. AFTER the L5R boardgame, please and thank you.

Also, BRING BACK AT-43!

They definitely had some very nice models back in the day with a very distinctive style as a sort of the Corvus Belli of their day (the mid 90's to early 2000's). I don't know if there is enough meat/nostalgia left on the bone though at this point. Wasn't there a massive crowdfunding failure about a decade ago that led up to this bankruptcy? I get the feeling that attempting to reboot it might end up at best like what's been going on with Warzone the last couple of years.

Oh geez, this again. Please just let it die.

Monolith miniatures are some of the worst of the big box miniature boardgames I've bought. They aren't bad, but CMON quality they are not. Not only the details but their sculptors lean heavily on pretty static poses imo.

Thanks -- How does this fit in with Temple of the West? I'm guessing that Temple owns the rights in the USA or ???

Reading the comments it sounds like Temple of the West has been gathering up bits of copyright material/sculpts that had licences held by other parties/original creators.

So bits here and bits there since they couldn't get the whole IP itself. This might well mean that what Monolith has isn't "complete" but is just a lions share of a significant portion of the rights and IP material.

The two might well co-exist without issue or they could even merge up what rights they've got (or one sells to the other etc...).

Also we don't even know if Monolith will use any of the old sculpts. It could be much like when Warcradle took on the old Spartan stuff and the old stuff is just in too much of a mess to re-use and instead they'll use the IP but resculpt everything from scratch.

Well if re-release of 25 year old metal sculpts at modern boutique prices worked for GW surely it will work for Confo.

Even in white metal Conf minis pushed the limits of the material, not sure these would carry over to other materials without major redesign or quality compromises.

Confrontation is at the top of the list has my favourite miniatures but it's not the game that will bring me back. I would rather just see the IP continuing to be explored by the best talent and represented in big scale miniature resins for the painters. Im happy with that.

Check out Legends of Signum then. A spiritual successor to Confrontation (granted, they got their start with recasts of the old Rackham stuff...but a super complete library of recasts), LoS plays very differently and they have established their own following. They offer resins and have a Patreon with monthly updates, new products and an "warmaster" scale game called Fantasy Commander.

Intresting. On Facebook Frederic posted a reply to someone when asking about previous attempts to revive Confrontation:

actually they even didn't have the proper rights. We acquired the right from the Court. This rights had never been Sold before to anyone.

In reguards to Temple of the West

don t want any war with temple of the west. Just know that the Court is very clear on the fact that The IP has never been Sold during the first juridical liquidation. Thats why the liquidation was re-open. Our right are absolutly exclusive.

I would love Confrontation back, but I don't see myself participating in any crowdfunding for it outside of just a rulebook at first.

I would like to say it can't go as bad as last time... but I feel like this is an IP you really can't tempt fate with.

Would love for AT-43 to come back, that was a fantastic rule set.

Still, will have to temper this in scepticism, as sadly Rackham's IP hasn't had a great track record.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

I'd love some more AT-43, but can't imagine they'd be prepaints like before.

Same (both in regards to wanting more AT-43 as well doubting it'll be prepainted). Heroscape is probably the closest comparison and I don't believe those were prepainted any more in their latest campaign despite a hefty price markup.

From what I understand the old molds no longer exist, either having been given away or actively destroyed.

On the other hand a few of the exitsing Conf creative community (Cernonnus Studios and Temple of the West) who have been making new minis to support the game have said they'd been contacted by Monolith to potentially work with them, which is promising. Especially after the dirty Sans Detours did to the EVO team during the KS.

The galaxy is littered with the single-planet graveyards of civilisations which made the economically sensible decision not to explore space.

Honestly I'd expect them to go with new moulds. The technology and even the kind of casting they might use have all moved on now. Big chunky models in metal can still be done, but its not the pathway many are going right now with the rising tin/metal costs compared to cheaper methods. Plus technologies like plastics are getting steadily easier to access and you've still got resins and 3D printing. So yeah I'd have expected new sculpts, which means all the value is in the IP and the name. Which to be fair is a hard sell after the failed KS disaster. It will remain to be seen if there's still value in the setting to make it worth it and if it can resurrect itself.

It's hard to tell but Signum seems to be doing decently well and they are using a very similar design style; and I'm not aware of anyone else in the market really pushing that design. So there's room for the style to return I'd say
