I have had a Hudson and Allen foamcore castle kit sitting in my cabinet of shame for a solid decade. I always seemed to prioritize my next army project over terrain, so there it stayed. During COVID lockdown, I started what I took to calling my Anyhammer project, which was a 28mm medieval army, specifically 1200-1300 AD. I based it so that the models could be simply ‘trayed’ or inserted onto larger bases to allow them to be playable in any number of game systems. I stuck with it too, and with a comfortable 200+ models done, I have turned to terrain for them. Playing proper sieges is on my bucket list, so the old H&A castle came out of the cabinet. I finished enough wall sections this week that I have a small but quite playable border fortress; a Keep on the Borderlands, if you will. Pics were taken in my gaming room on a 4’ x 4’ mat.

More ambitious additions are already planned…

Bravo, I can see the love of the project, both in the fortress and in the infantry.

The non uniformity on the shading/colouring of the rocks really works well.
Great work

Thanks. I stumbled on the recipe but it works. Base XV-88, splotchy application of Nuln Oil all over, drybrush with khaki. Then paint the details like doors, arrow slits, etc.

Looking great - do the roofs on the interior come off?

If your after more castle stuff in 28mm. I know ESLO hobby used to make some fantastic 28mm castles that were like 3X3 but they were fully assembled and fully painted so they cost upwards of $300+

I also saw these block building kits on amazon

For starters great work on the army. Looking good and I like that you have the army playable in just about any genre that you feel like.

Great Work on the fortress as well. I have been meaning to create a Fortress for a long time using Hirst Arts Blocks. As of late before this post, I got a hankering for getting more terrain projects done, and my HA Fortress was on the list. Now more than ever. I particularly like the interior of your fortress.

Keep it up and of course I would like to see more additions when you can.
