Painted up some cadians in old British DPM camo

Think I’m gonna do a whole army up like this. I also did one in DDPM but unless someone wants to finance me another 2000 points of cadians so I can make desert and tundra versions it’ll only be a one off
Also bonus kasrkin.

It’s a relatively leisurely process sustainable for even cadians with a bit of patience.
I prime black and light brown and dry brush white to pick out details to get an idea about the contrasts
I paint the armour with a dark desaturated green and highlight with a warmer lighter green, glaze to blend
For the camo I base with a few coats of a sandy yellow then second layer of camo is large marks in a vibrant leafy green, then the third is smaller streaks of brown, and then finally thin streaks of black in random directions.
The straps are khaki glazed over green and the gun and black elements are a dark grey rather than full black
Following that I did an all over wash of brown
The face is just contrast paint over white but may look at improving there. For visors it’s white with yellow ink over top or red if it’s an optic or something. I plan on revisiting that though.
After that I do a subtle dry brushing with a very light tan all over to bring out details and add wear
Base is pigment powder dusted all up his boots and trousers, a few dried coffee remains, some tiny pebbles and bits of moss I soaked in denatured alcohol and glycerol to preserve it. Locked in with some pva and whatnot and dry brushed with some green hues too on rocks and such

Watch this space for progress and lemme know what you think

These camos are simple and of best taste, you can never go wrong!

Looking nicely lowkey/muted, adds a sense of realism which I like. Kudos!

"The larger point though, is that as players, we have more control over what the game looks and feels like than most of us are willing to use in order to solve our own problems"

Thanks but I do worry they need more contrast on the tabletop either with base or otherwise to pop

You could use another color and give them unit/company insignia.

Done a few more models. Kitbashed a bit. Gave the squad Sgt a maroon beret and trimmed down his carbine and folded the stock so it’s more like a para lascarbine or las-smg. Created camo helmet by cutting an old bandage up and pulling out fibers with tweezers and sticking down with pva glue.

Also did another kasrkin, cut down a Primaris underslung grenade Launcher and put it on the hotshot. Also looks good on Cadian las rifle but don’t have too many of those bits.

There are far too few sheathed knife models in the Cadian kit for my purposes I will have to look into cloning with bluestuff

Merry Christmas

Batch painted some more guardsmen and did a plasma gun lad
Tried acrylic and oil based washes but think acrylic is just easier and sometimes the oil comes out glossy
Plasma is flouro blue over white, dry brushed and stippled around then white loose paint in crevices and a little edge highlights to make it look glowing

Few more guards, mostly finished but still Ill probably revisit faced add higher contrast to the values . Gave one of them a hotshot volley gun out of a scion kit. Kinda like the squad LMG. Also did a heavy laser but didn’t add a second crewman, I like using the poses included for regular cadians
