For Warhammer 40,000, I am working on an Imperial Knight House that is on its last legs.

I've decided on a build, conversions (Armigers with Whip antennas and stowage), a paint scheme (think of the British Long Range Desert Group in North Africa), and even a backstory for the force...

I just can't think of a name for these fine folks or their Heraldry. Both things I kinda need.

Here's what I have:

Nestled within the fog-laden mists of the island world of Caliburn, House ???? stands as a Tertius-grade household, a bastion of honor and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds. Though their numbers dwindle, the Knights of ???? remain steadfast in their duty to the Imperium, driven by an unwavering commitment to protect humanity from its myriad foes.

To fulfill their sacred duty, House ???? dispatches small yet determined reconnaissance detachments known as the Royal Dragoons. Comprised primarily of landless Knights and their Armiger Squires, these brave souls seek not only to defend but to carve their names into the annals of glory. They traverse the galaxy, listening intently for whispers of danger and gathering intelligence on threats that may warrant the full might of their household.

Equipped with whip antennas and specialized communication gear, the Royal Dragoons are adept at relaying critical information across vast distances. Their advanced systems ensure that vital updates reach their lords, allowing House ???? to respond swiftly to emerging threats.

As they navigate the treacherous landscapes of distant worlds, the Knights of House ???? embody the essence of the scout—swift, cunning, and ever-watchful. They are the vanguard, the first to engage the enemy, meticulously assessing threats and gathering intelligence to determine if the formidable forces of their Barons and Senior Lords are needed.

In the grim darkness of the far future, House ???? stands as a beacon of hope. Their unwavering resolve ensures that the Emperor's will is felt even in the most desolate corners of the galaxy, as they continue to fight against the encroaching darkness, embodying the spirit of honor and sacrifice that defines the Imperium.

You could base the name of the house to inspire the heraldry or vice versa. The LRDG have a scorpion as a symbol, the SAS use a winged blade. I'd suggest using something similar (though distinct, to prevent any direct parallels to current or recent historic military units). Alternatively you could pick another aspect of the desert and use that as inspiration. I like the names of desert winds and you could use those as more inspiration for how the house fights.

For example, the house could use their experience and equipment to predict desert storms, which they utilise to conceal their advance, striking without warning. Perhaps when they deploy in significant numbers the household drop ships or knights can even generate isolated storm conditions.

Here are some example storm names you could use for the house name:

Sirocco
A hot wind that blows from the Sahara towards the Mediterranean coast of Europe

Simoom
A strong, hot, dry, dust-laden wind that blows in the Sahara, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and the Arabian Peninsula

Haboob
A violent dust storm or sandstorm that originally applied to such storms in Sudan

Khamsin: A hot, dry, dusty wind that blows from the south over Egypt, the Red Sea, and the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

Harmattan: A hot wind that originates in the Sahara

Aajej: A wind found in southern Morocco

Thanks for the help. It's made me rethink the concept of the force. I like your idea of creating their own storms and using them in their attacks.

it looks like the house draws a lot of themes from Arthurian legend, especially with a world like Caliburn. The easiest asnwer would be to take a minor character from the stories and use their name for your house. Agravain, Gaheris, Sagramore, etc. Lots of cool names that only British literature nerds would recognize.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?
