Hello.

In the past I have use Lahmia Medium and water, plus heavy agitation via a paint-mixer, to revitalize old thick acrylic paints: I have enjoyed great success in bringing some bottles of 15-20 year old paints back to life.

I have been out of the hobby for a number of months, and some of my paints I haven't touched for longer than that time.

My question is: are there any non-GW mediums that folks could recommend as a replacement for Lahmia Medium? I live in the US and have "Michaels" stores in my vicinity, and am asking if any folks have used Liquitex or other brands for their own acrylic paints.

[I do not speed paints, not due to snobbishness but simply because I've been able to keep my standard acrylic paints active for years using the aforementioned technique, and I wish to continue using them, so please only advise for "standard" acrylic paints.]

Thank you in advance!

You can get an 8 oz bottle of Liquitex acrylic matte medium for $17 or so at Michaels.

Contrast this with the $8-ish for... how big is that bottle of GW medium again? Been a while since I even looked at GW paints.

Yep, you can buy a big ol' bottle of medium from the hobby/art store. Golden and Liquitex are both solid brands. The only potential issue is that it's just medium. It won't include any of the additives that GW likely adds to their medium, so it won't be a perfect match.
