While I'm an old hand at war gaming in general (been playing Battletech since it was Battledroids, was an early Carwars adopter, Commander's SFB player and enjoy historical games like Jutland and Harpoon) I am a complete n00b when it comes to 40k and more 'modern' war games. I've been away from the hobby for over two decades, as I was busy being a single father, but now that my daughter's off serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, I have some time to dive in and get my feet wet again.

I'm a software engineer/architect by profession, but have been a storyteller all my life, and have been a published fiction and non-fiction writer since the turn of the century (wow, I sound old). If you're interested, I write under the pseudonym S.D. Campbell. I'm also a scale modeller, and have two warship models on public display (HMCS St. Croix in the Naval Museum of Alberta and HMCS Summerside in the town hall of Summerside PEI)

I've been a big fan of the 40k lore over the last decade, and really connected with the Leagues of Votann--I like their style and how they provide a completely different perspective on the lostech aspect of 40k grimdark. I'm working on painting up my first LoV army and absorbing as much as I can regarding rules, tactics and strategies of 10th Ed. I'm keen on exploring the competitive scene eventually, but for now I'm just learning the ropes and prepping for fielding that army of space dwarves for the first time once they're ready.

While I current live in Calgary, Alberta (where my daughter was born and raised) I'm originally from Prince Edward Island, and plan on retiring back there when the time is right.

So, yeah, excited to be here and see what the community offers!

Cheers,

Hi there. Welcome back in.

If you have pics of your models to upload, there's the Gallery. We're always looking to see what people have been gaming with.
As for 40k etc (It is 38 years old itself ) there're enough of us to help out. Not me, as I'm in the same boat about the intricacies of the rules. But there are sections here to ask questions.

Thanks!

I'm just finishing up a pair of Einhyr Champions and a Sagitaur. I'm taking (liberal) design cues for the kin colouring and markings from 0079 Gundam Shin Matsunaga's MS-06R, as I think the mix of White and Blue/Green works well for figures that ultimately come from the Greater Thurian League. (hmm...a 1/60 MS-06R would be titan-scale on a 40k battlefield...)

I'm hoping to complete both champs tonight, so I'll look to posting some pics this week.

Cheers,

Sean
