22 days of open trench warfare battles, skirmishes, assaults and bombardments.
On August 7, 1539, the last resistance of the Spanish garrison of the Albanian village of Castelnuovo ended.
The last Spanish defenders fulfilled the destiny they had promised themselves when they rejected the ofers of surrender made to them, according to the rules of war, by Hayreddin Barbarossa, admiral of the Ottoman fleet and commanding general of the operation in command of 54,000 Ottomans.
"Let them come whenever they dare!". This was Sarmiento's reply, on behalf of the Spanish Tercio defending the old fortification.

Castelnuovo 1539 depicts that desperate defense of a city with an old-fashioned fortress, in which a handful of indomitable soldiers try to inflict so many casualties on the enemy that their certain death was worth it.
A 2-player game, with asymmetrical sides, both in units and victory conditions: The Spanish are conducting a desperate defense. Their only hope is to inflict so many casualties on the Ottoman army that it stops their campaign and makes the capture of the city costly.
The Ottomans will have to take the city, causing irreplaceable casualties to the Spanish Tercio, while suffering camisado attacks and sudden attacks from the besieged.
Key points of Castelnuovo 1539:
• Easy to learn system.
• Highly dynamic: each player replenishes his hand of cards at the end of his turn.
Several layers of strategic decision.
• The defender does not play a passive role, he makes precision attacks and camisados, looking for his goal: to cause the necessary number of casualties to the attacker.
• Multiple levels of strategic decision-making
• Historical fidelity.
• A very little known siege battle.
• An EPIC outcome in each game.
• Asymmetric gameplay.
• Replayability: Cards make every battle different.
Cards play a fundamental role in Castelnuevo 1539, creating an agile rhythm with no inter-turns between players.
With the action cards you activate your units to move and attack. Also, the Spanish player can make the fearsome camisados.
The camisados consisted of night raids that the troops of the Tercios, in reduced numbers, carried out to perpetrate sabotage and attack the Ottoman camps, trying to eliminate by means of bladed weapons the enemies while they slept, in stealth and to cause material damage to the camp.
On June 17 at 10:00 (CET) begins its campaign on Kickstarter this wargame for 2 players, which is played in 90 minutes. We invite you to learn more about the campaign, see gameplay videos and much more information on Kickstarter.
