How do!
Turns out painting a poo load of infantry focuses the mind on infantry. And as per the thread title? Said thoughts are currently farting around Tactical Squads.
Whilst they lack native AT, they’re otherwise pretty reliable. And of course, we can upgrade a unit to pack not just more of a punch, but a variety of punches.
Traditionally I’ve considered using only one type of upgrade unit to reinforce, specifically Plasma Gun or Missile Support stands. But recently? I’ve been thinking of mixing in some Terminators. Their guns are exactly weedy, and they add some welcome additional HTH heft. Kinda like bodyguards within the squad to make the whole a thornier proposition for enemy charges.
How do you do it? What’s your preference? Do you find it depends on which Legion you’ve chosen?

Depends upon what I want them to do and if (and by what) they are being transported. For detachments I want to sit back I use missiles or if I am expecting them to clear buildings for the AT and range.
Detachments that are getting dropped close to the enemy to take and hold points I go plasma for volume of shots.
Detachments to get in the enemies face (generally Spartan or Mastodon bourne) get termies to tank hits and give the ability to not runaway in a loosing assault.
Never seen the point in attaching assaults.

When it comes to attaching plasma, missile or terminator support units each has advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation.

For my DA I have gone for plasma and Termies to reinforce the Tactical squads. Found them flexible units

I tend to just add more tactical, maybe some plasma stands, because I don’t know what else to do with them. Termites and missile launchers go into their own detachments. One detachment in the Demi-legion will get rhino dedicated transports.

They’re kind of useful for making the most of your more limited slots, like Support.
If filling with purely missile launchers? You get some disposable bods before you have to start removing the good stuff.
Plasma Gunners add a bit of flexibility. I don’t think it’s a unit I’d necessarily rely on for hunting vehicles if I had other options. But Light AT is at least going to make my opponent wary of exposing side and rear armour, which is where Plasma Guns can do some decently heavy lifting.
Assault I remain entirely torn on. Sure, it does again Save A Slot, and maxed out you get a reasonable independent Assault Detachment to fart around beating stuff up. But, it then leaves what I’d consider an understrength and largely underwhelming Tactical Squad. I suppose they’d have some utility to at least clutter up a home field objective, or to scuttle out to intercept a would-be charge into something I’d rather not have beaten up, potentially giving me more time to react.
