With Dropfleet Commander coming out in a few weeks, I think it's time to put a fork in this game as it's done. :( Shoulda waited for DFC...

Ouch nearly £30 for 2 warthogs. Makes Flames of War look like a bargain to me.

I think I might start Team Yankee instead.

Cool models, but for a game that has models, your buying the game for the models also. To me (and just my opinion) its pretty silly to play a game with rando models when ones can be bought for it. Not saying their prices are good, but they are not as crazy as some companies prices.

Plus the models for halo do look really good.

I enjoy the game a lot and plan to get the tanks and extra stuff as it comes. Just at the moment theres a big surge on 30k and Dropfleet so that's taking up time/budget

I like how Spartan prices their games as if they are this huge industry player, who can throw their weight around... when the only actual reputation they possess is one (earned mind you) of being the company who over-extends, makes too many games, and abandons them at will.

Sorry Spartan, you made me the fool the last three times I tried to give you a chance. If you actually made say ONE game, and really supported it, you could be something special.

I'm suggesting there are alternatives to Spartan's pricing structure, and buying other company models is pretty much the norm for everything other than perhaps 40k. Perhaps this is my historical gaming side talking, but why wouldn't you buy the models you want vs only what the flagship company sells? I have both Warlord and Victrix Hoplites, plus WGF and Aventine minis mixed into my Greek forces. My Saga Normans have Gripping Beast, Perry, Crusader, and Conquest minis. My Saga Vikings/Danes are WGF, Foundry, V&V, others. Templars are Fireforge and Perry. My Ronin has Kensai, Perry, Dixon, WGF...

My terrain is 4ground, Sarissa, Homemade, Michael's trees, German School produced paper houses, and other random kit.

Bolt Action, Hail Caesar, Ronin, Lion Rampant, Battlegroup, Gates of Antares, Gruntz, Warmaster/Warmaster Ancients/Warmaster Medieval, and others all allow and encourage other sources of minis. They know, other than perhaps folks who wish to brag about how much they spent, that it will keep folks hooked on their games and then if they are only a little more expensive instead of double, they'll get some of those gamers plus the new guys who are interested and want it all in one package.

Your listing many games though that A. a company doesn't provide minis, and/or B, its highly generic aesthetic.

Terrain really isn't part of the conversation as terrain is use whatever makes it look good. Never said it was silly to not use companies official terrain

I will disagree with you on Gates of Antares though, that, like Halo is a very specific aesthetic you'd want to use their models for.

Basically how I form my opinion is:

If the games models have a specific aesthetic, and the company provides models, should use those models. This supports the company to grow and release new stuff

If the company doesn't provide models, or the aesthetic is very generic (all historical, bolt action, saga, gruntz, literally every osprey game) then use whatever fits it.
