Hey thar all.

I run a 40k club in germany and we have decided to use the CoD rules for all our games (including those not fought on an actual city). Since I'm the one who gets to sort out the rules part of our tournaments, I'm putting together a list of what could possibly constitutes a wrecker without the use of a stratagem (for use in non-cityfight battles). Obviously vehicles using Siege Shells, Dreadnought Assault Drills or the Stone Crusher Carnifex have gear tooled towards the cause of bringing down buildings, so I have included those; I've also decided to use Titan Killer Weaponry, Warmachine Close Combat Weapons (and the Tyranid equivalent) in this list (and the possibility of destruction due to preliminary bombardements).

My question now is, can anyone think of any other Warhammer 40k Items/units/weapons/etc. which were, fluffwise, specifically designed to take down buildings or titans and which currently exist within the rules? By rules I mean anything compatible with 4th edition (chapter approved, Forgeworld, etc.) as we use any and all GW written rules that we're aware of (I think).

Thanks in advance.

An IG special weapons team with a demo charge? Granted, it would take longer than swinging a huge ball at it, and it is S8, but it's a demo charge!
Maybe it would work if the unit had to start inside the building and not move that turn...

Somewhere in south-central England.

If these rules are to be used as standard I think every faction should be provided with a potential "wrecker" weapon of some sort. For example, Tau could have a TDX shell for their railgun submunition.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Orbital Strikes (Lance Strike, Melta Torpedo) from WH and DH codices seem tailor-made to raze buildings....

And I really like the idea of an IG special weapons team bringing down a building on themselves!

But Killkrazy - we need to make the railgun better? Be satisfied with a tank that can pen a Russ or LandRaider 50% of the time, or throw down a large blast template with no scatter (and no cover saves if enough markerlights guide it) and which can only ever be glanced itself. Leave the demolitions to the cruder races.
Ok, maybe allow Broadsides to use 'wrecker'. Or have wrecker be a side effect of that new Crisis Suit suicide blast.

@KillKrazy

We allow the VDR, so such a vehicle could indeed be built (i.e. with a Titankiller weapon or the Wrecker option). Though I suppose you meant a less expensive variant? Tau would indeed be an army without any such options available to them...including all Eldar and Necrons. But I'm not going to worry about that right now - I don't think it's too unfair in that regard, especially given the Wrecker option.

@Stranglelooper
...can'T believe I fergot those...thanks!

@En Guard
Yeah, I agree that if the charge would be set right, it could/would work. But so could a concentrated effort of Meltabombs or similar placed explosives - which goes a bit beyond what I'm trying to accomplish here. (And if a Leman Russ without Siege Shells can't bring down the house, then a glorified Satchel charge probably won't)

*edit*
Okay, so Necrons and Tau can't take the Wrecker option, but still. I'll have to think of the Star Pulse Generator though *flips through Gothic* Yeah, that seems pretty evol, will have to give that consideration.

These guys are special teams. C'mon!

No idiot space marine with meltabombs or even a tank can target the structural integrity like an explosives specialist.

Like all things Guard it needs a strong potential for failure or heroics. Start in the middle of the building, light the fuse (d6) and then run (d6). Hope to get far enough away or out of the building before it blows. Dud on 1-3, dangerous on 4-5, collapse on 6.

how about giving Crisis Suits some kind of...I dunno....Vibro weapon to bring down buildings. and for Necs, maybe those what's-their-name, Tomb Spiders?

Hmm...given the post's movement and further posts, I guess I kinda misstated something somewehre...oh well.

Anyhoo, I'm not reall looking to making new equipment or rules - I'm simply looking for things which might logically have the ability to wreck buildings, because they were made for this (or a similar) purpose. I.e., not because they can punch a hole through something (Railgun, for example), but because they cause horrendous structural damage. A Fluff description, or actually, pointing me towards one, would be greatly appreciated.

What I have right now are:
VDR Wreckers (made for that purpose)
Titan Killer Weaponry (used against Titans)*
War Machine Close Combat Weapons/Tyranid equivalent (used against Titans)*
Anything with Siege Shells (made for that purpose)
Dreadnought Assault Drills (made for that purpose)
Stone Crusher Carnifexes (made for that purpose)
Orbital Strikes (used against Staships)*
Preliminary Bombardements (if it fulfills the conditions in CoD)
Star Pulse Generator (used against Starships)*
Particle Whip (used against Starships)*

*Anti-Titan or Ship weaponry is powerful enough to, to me, also count for this purpose.

So, sorry for the confusion, and thanks fer all previous (and perhaps later?) comments.

*edit...well...sort of..*

I was thinking of maybe adding Vibro-Cannons, depending on how they work...I don't own an Eldar Codex and have no current access to one, and haven't had the second edition one either. Could someone sum up the fluff-gist of them, with, perhaps, a quote stating their built purpose (might help)? Either would do.

The Vibro-cannon creates a rapidly scaling sonic wave directed along a magnetic tunnel. "The resulting resonant frequencies shake the target apart".

Sounds like an excellent candidate.

Resonance is why soldiers have to break step while crossing bridges - otherwise, the steady beat of their marching feet could well set up resonance frequencies, and the bridge could tear itself apart.
