Trying to look at it in a similar light.

I just hope the influx of PA fans doesn't bring a bunch of idiotic requests with it...

Yeah, am I alone in not being a crazy big fan of those guys? Not that I dislike them, I just don't really see a model of them as... you know, something I would pay for...

I am fine with it as it usually means there will be a massive influx of Penny Arcade fanboys/girl dumping a not inconsiderable amount of money and boosting the overall value of the kickstarter.

Not always, people are fond of stating "penny arcade was what made this big at the end" without taking into account the fact that kickstarters spike at the end regardless of whether or not their site mentions it.

No harm in Mantic grabbing any publicity they can get though, especially if they've paid their $5k to have that mini sculpted like the rest of us have to.

Mantic should also realise that adding that miniature is also free promotion for the PA website, if they sculpted it for free, they just got slick-talked.

Oh, and the mini is not a stretch goal, so I see no cause for concern about it replacing something cooler, unlike with Relic Knights where it was a stretch.

I do find it odd that Mantic felt the need to send me two separate emails just to announce that the Penny Arcade mini was being made. One from the kickstarter project updates, and another from Mantic's newsletter. I don't personally mind, but it is kinda spammy, and a random PA figure isn't exactly going to attract new backers from the newsletter pool... showing off the awesome mech in there might have, but that wasn't included in the email.

Hopefully we're not going too much into fan-service territory here, one of the good things this KS has done so far has been avoiding the IRL references unless they're really suitable.

I strongly doubt it's PA "forcing" their way into these games. Much more likely it's companies like Mantic and Soda Pop begging them to let them create a Gabe or Tycho figure.

hahahahahahahaha. Penny-Arcade is much, much bigger than Mantic or CMON. They don't need the promotion, Mantic does.

The RL references are pretty abysmally awful, actually. Wyn Greth-Zki? Mee-Kel Judwan? It's like they were named by the same "witty genius" (ie idiot) that came up with "Ver'Myn" or even the infamous "Mon-Keigh". (the last one was Gav Thorpe).

Not understanding the penny arcade hate. Getting wanged by PA can blowup interest in your product and they are big gamers and PAX is a massive convention. Any support is a good thing for mantic and opens doors.

I have two friends who are now in based upon the PA support alone. Works for me.

Not really understanding the PA hate either. I sincerely hope that they add a Tycho figure as well, although that character is almost never used outside PA's own stuff.

PA is decidedly huge. And pretty cool, overall. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they allowed use of their characters for little or no fees.

Don't we need another team to round out the BOGO stuff? Hope they do that next instead of the mech.

It's not really 'hate', honestly, at least not from me, it's just that I see the PA guys as jokes, and it's disconcerting to see them be so brazenly cast as a hero in the fiction(even if the character's origins are comedic in nature). Plus I was shouting my first reaction, the realization that came after about it NOT being a stretch made me feel much better about the situation. Oh, and we're less than 2k from the next stretch...2 hours after they announced it.

Whoop, no, spoke too soon, we're AT the stretch already!

I don't read Penny Arcade enough to recognize the characters. To me it's just a cool new MVP that looks a bit like Gambit, from X-Men.

I do get the Starship Troopers reference, and love it.

I love going to PAX, but don't read PA. That said, I'll be getting my Gabe model. Sigh, time to dance figures around to make things fit...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

So, besides the fact that my current tally is 300 in expectation of some future stretch goals, for 233, you get:
Striker! - $150
Double Team! (2 season 2 teams of your choice) - $25
Cheersquad! (4 cheerleaders, presumably of individual sculpt) - $15
Keepers 1 and 2(all 6 available Keepers) - $23
Paints!(the 10pack with 3 different brushes) - $20
And, if you're counting the paints as a figure per bottle and the trophy and balls as a single figure:
You're getting each figure for $1.88 USD for that price!
More stretches, better deal. That season 2 double team offer is especially snazzy though, each figure in that only costs $1.57
(I'm rounding up if it costs fractional money, for anyone double checking )

Holy hell yes. We're getting the Veer-myn upgrades in less than 15k(With Prone figure!), and they've put up the Second Run Striker option. Really hoping the Prone is an actual figure like it appears to be, they look great(And I'd happily drop some cash for spares!)

Oh Rats!
Update #62 · Sep. 26, 2012 · 9 comments
Unbelievable – you guys are just knocking over milestone after milestone!

Guaranteed pre-Christmas Shipping Strikers have now sold out. We’ve put a new Striker! level up that will pull stock from our second print run which will ship in January.

We are also going to close Jack and Keeper out and put the stock to one side to ensure we have enough stock to cover pledges of Cheerleader and up - these are still guaranteed for pre-Christmas shipping!

In addition, we’ve just got Rico Van Dien – simply amazing!

He’s now included free at Striker!

Up next, by popular demand:

$485,000 – Veer-myn Alternate Sculpts

If we pass this stretch goal we’ll be able to fund three new alternate sculpts for the Skittersneak Stealers Veer-myn Team – two Strikers and a Guard. Sculpting these alternate models is like funding a whole new team, so it’s a big undertaking and one we’re sure you’ll help us with!

To say thank you we will upgrade four Veer-myn players to these new sculpts* meaning you'll get more variety in your set!

But that’s not all - DreadBall is a violent game and big models on the board sometimes get in the way of play when they’ve been knocked over. To help with this, we’ll sculpt a “Prone” counter to denote knocked over models at the same time and include one free at Striker! – at the very least it’ll protect your paint jobs!

And finally, if we hit this goal, we can start talking about this guy…

According to Mantic, they're able to hold about 20 figures EACH. I doubt that includes things like the Mech or the larger Guard/Keeper figures and such though, probably just the average Jack and Striker.

Free Robot as DreadBall goes Ultimate

Update #63 · Sep. 26, 2012 · 5 comments

The ultimate test of skill and tactics for any major-league coach, the colossal stadiums of Ultimate DreadBall reverberates with the screams and cheers of millions of fans. Hulking mechs and monstrous aliens are thrown onto the huge pitches to play ball and teams from all over the galaxy clamour to compete in the hope of winning the competition’s considerable prize.

Season 3 - DreadBall goes Ultimate!

Ultimate DreadBall is the second expansion to the core ruleset. In short – it’s more teams and more MVPs, rules for bigger arenas, 4 player options and Multi-hex giant Robots of awesomeness! Check out Jake’s fantastic post over on Quirkworthy for more details!

When we started this kickstarter creating Ultimate DreadBall seemed impossible – now it is within touching distance! With your help it’s going to happen!

At $500,000 – the Ultimate DreadBall Ruleset and Board become a reality. We'll chain Jake to his desk and get him to create the most advanced set of rules to challenge even the best coaches in the game.

If we reach this stretch goal we will be able to produce the DreadBall Ultimate Expansion Rulebook – and give you a digital copy in every pledge level!

Not only that, but we will be able to create a new DreadBall Ultimate pitch – a large mounted game board with brand new art – so you can play with 2 teams per side – or the ultimate 4 player game experience. Playtests will dictate the look, but we need the space for some multi-hex beasties and multiplayer games so it’s going to be big! This will go up in the Extras ready for you to add to your pledge.

BUT – we’re still not finished!

Back when we passed through the £380,000 stretch goal, we slept too long (shame on us!) and the stretch goal between Nightshade and Helder was bigger than normal. If we pass $500,000 the next few stretches will be to fund some multi-hex beasts and giant robots – originally all of these were planned as add-ons in the extras section.

To celebrate the $500,000 milestone (and rectify the ‘missing’ stretch goal) you’ll each be able to select one of the multi-hex beasties – and add it for free to a pledge of Striker! and up.

To make this happen however, we’re going to need a couple of BIG things …

DreadBall Mech – coming to a stretch goal soon!

I am actually intrigued about the idea of a 4-player game. I don't feel there are enough rulesets desinged for 3+ players out there and any attempt to make a good one is good IMHO.

Bring on the Hungry Hungry Hippo arena!

As long as the models look good and don't begin to suffer in sculpting quality, I really think this ruleset may take off.

I'm new to this whole kickstarter thing. So, do I have this right?

To get near enough 1 of every cool thing, the best way to go about it is:

Striker: $150
2 Season 2 Teams: $25 (Asterian and Female Corp)
Coaches: $15
Keepers Season 2: $8
Gabe: $10
Cheerleaders: $15
Keepers other?????: $15
Season 2 Rulebook: $10

Is that right? Would I be missing anything blindingly obvious? Like, I only just noticed I wouldn't have had the season 2 rulebook...

You get a digital copy of the season 2 rulebook in striker if you want to save yourself $10 though I know some people prefer a hard copy.

The only you've not got that i can see is the other 2 season 2 teams. You can get all 4 for $50. Then there's the Asterian team on top. Otherwise that all looks good and very similar to my pledge with the exception of the MDF pitch:

Striker - $150
4 Season 2 Teams (Robots, Z'zor, Females and Judwan) $50
MDF Pitch: $25
Coaches - $15
Keepers Season 1 - $15
Keepers Season 2 - $8
Gabe - $10

Oh, and I ordered another Nightshade because he's cool and I'm waiting on a sixth team to do the BOGOF with the Asterians.

Ok, assuming that the you're asking for just limiteds:
Jack gets you a lot of awesome stuff for 100, including the limited Nightshade. You'd have to add on Wyn Greth'zyki(8 dollars) and Gabe(10 dollars), but that would get you the bare bones of everything current and limited(figures only, not looking at shirts, boards, dice, or anything like that) for $118.

Now, if you want MORE than just the bare bones, I'm doing 300, which is getting me:
Striker(which includes Nightshade and Wyn) 150
Two S2 teams for 25
Paints for 20
Cheerleaders and Keepers for 38
and the rest for extras I've yet to decide.

Yeah, I have a Striker pledge since day one, and I'd like to add-on only that which I won't be able to buy in retail. It's hard to figure out what will be available for purchase next year and what won't be.

Gabe is totally a limited add on only, right? and Nightshare and Wynn are freebies at Striker but limited after that?

Anything else that's super limited?
