Does anybody know of any good fluff material for Nighthaunter, or even the Nightlords Legion? I'm pretty sure there is a book called 'Nighthaunter', but I read the description and it didn't seem to do with him. Also, I was looking for Index Astartes, but I could only find it on the UK Amazon, not US.

I am reading "Lord of the Night" right now and it is about the Nightlords. It is a pretty good read. The story is very good but the author is not very talented.

I just finished "Lord of the Night" and it's an entertaining read. It fills in some of the details about the Night Lords that the Index Astartes article did not cover. As an example (and without providing spoilers), it firmly answers the question: "What happened after M'Shen's vid-log blurs and cuts out?" (M'Shen is one of the Callidus assassins sent after the Night Haunter in the IA).
It also gives us: a better look at the character of the primarch, his legion and his officers; a few more passages from the Night Haunter's book "The Dark"; and an interesting look at the legion from someone who's been in exile for ten thousand years (not a spoiler, that's off the back cover).
In my opinion, the book does a good job of portraying chaos marines as calculating warriors and not just mindless killers, but you have to get pretty far into the book for the characterizations to unfold. Spurrier seems to be one of those authors who holds his cards very close until he's ready to play his hand -- and that hand gets played very late in the book.
I read a lot of Black Library books for fun. Some of them are good. Some of them are not. This one ranks pretty close to the top of the good, in my opinion. I'm hoping we get to see a couple of the characters return in other stories.

Give it time. See if you still feel that way when you're done. I thought much the same until I was very close to the end of the book. Spurrier seems to enjoy taking his time unfolding his characters' motivations. All of the primary characters get unwrapped very late in the story. I have the feeling he would be a much better author outside of GW's constraints. He takes a few interesting twists with the standard Black Library plot outline that I think he could have pulled off much better if he were writing inside his own universe.

Of the books I've read:
Dan Abnett, Jonathan Green, William King and Simon Spurrier are good, IMO.
Graham McNeill is hit or miss. I liked "Storm of Iron" and "False Gods" a lot, but his Ultramarines books weren't quite as good.
Gav Thorpe's "Angels of Darkness" was good, but OOP. I've not read his others.
Ben Counter is also hit or miss, but is getting better.
I've heard some people like James Swallow, but his characters are shallow and his plots are transparent even by Black Library standards, IMO. His treatment of female characters just comes off as needlessly misogynistic.

@Arioc, I took your advice and stuck with the book "Lord of the Night." It turned out to be a great read. I agree that Spuirrier is a very good storyteller, he just keeps tripping over grammar in many of his sentences. I definitely found the Nightlords a fascinating legion, maybe the most interresting after the Black Legion.
