Subject: What to call my Salamanders Second Founding Chapter?

My Space Marine army is a second founding chapter of the Salamanders. I know this isn't backed by fluff but I didn't want to do a strictly strict Salamander army as I find their traits aren't terribly effective. I kept cleanse and purify but using flamer and melta weapons I figured using "Take the fight to them" would be beneficial. I am leaning towards a couple names.
Firedrakes Sons of Nocturne
I like Firedrakes more and I think I've heard of them somewhere. In any case what do you all think? If you have some suggestions lemme know. Thanks

There isn't a 2nd Founding chapter with Salamanders geneseed. They were so badly mauled in the ambush at Istvaan V that they were small enough to not need splitting up as the other chapters were. If you want an ancient DIY with Salamander geneseed, the earliest you can go go is the 3rd Founding. I would also steer away from the name Firedrakes as this is the name of the Salamanders' 1st Company. They're not likely to be real keen on anyone usurping their name.

Sons of Nocturne can work, also some variation of dragon or drake (for example, the black dragons are rumored to be a salamander successor chapter).

I gather that Flaming Newts is the name that you're going with for your Salamanders ?th successor (I'm not going to explain again why 2nd founding isn't possible) but I am curious about what you've decided upon for a color scheme and symbol. Have you got any painted up yet?

I'd personally avoid any name with "Flaming' in it unless you plan on painting them pink with feather boas. Ok now that I type it out it actually sounds like a fun idea. You could always go with a Pheonix name like Ashes of the Pheonix or do something like Children of the Flame or Keepers of the Flame.

Anyone mentions newt and I picture that little girl in 'Aliens'
"They mostly come out at night. Mostly..."
Don't really care for newt.
Could use drake/dragon somehow: Stardrakes, Celestial Dragons, Stormdrakes, etc.
Or you could play with the smithing aspect of the Salamanders: Forgelords or Hammers of Vulkan/Nocturne,/Prometheus.

Jumping in on an old post but a buddy of mine plays a ?th founding off of the Salamanders and he named them 'Sons of Vulkan.'
He painted them up with dark brown/black with red/orange veins running though the entire thing. It was supposed to look like slowly cooling Magma but it just kind of makes them look like Zebras.

Ah, you should make'em Third or later Founding to give yourself more leeway with your fluff - or write them as a "lost" chapter. (to give a sort of [adjective] example I wrote my custom chapter ("Tiger Legion" though originally I was going to call them "Black Hunters" as a combination of Dark Angels-style homeworld, Alpha Legion tactical doctrine, and Space Wolf-y irreverence/mutative potential - even though I wasn't really familiar with the fluff of these two out of these three chapters when I hammered out my rambling little epic about warp storms, Inquistorial-sponsored Chaos Cults, time-travelling squats supplementing the Tech-Marine contingent and huge mutants standing in for Chaplains. Even the stripey Chapter colours turned out to have all ready have been done by someone else, as well as the use of female warriors to fill in auxiliary roles, though not to the same extent, by another guy! I justified them as a probable Ultras/maybe Iron Hands successor Chapter due to the effects of some serious Warp exposure of their gene-seed and spending a looong time building up their numbers while subjugating their homeworld. The moral is, it's pretty hard to be 100% original in 40k. In retrospect, I'd say start with your favourite traits, then a pastiche of the coolest chapters' qualities in your opinion, then make everything else up from there. Warp Travel is a great narrative device for filling in fluff holes. Throwing out a few random Salamandery names for consideration - or preferably mutilation, though I pick on fluff occasionally I love a decent backstory : Ash Wurms, Lava Drinkers, Scions of the Anvil, Acolytes of Brimstone - that one kind of sounds like they might have been messing around with some Imperial Fisty nonsense - Dragon Slayers, Godchildren of Nbel, Sulphur Reavers, Eruptors, Phoenix Legion ...you can keep going on and on with this kind of stuff. Everyone's got their own opinion on what's cool and original enough for them. GL and HF with the fluff. edit - for a painting idea, what about base coat white to bright yellow, highlighted to orange, then red, and finally black with a small dusting of grey on the highest ridges? Pick someplace to put your squad markings and someplace to put your chapter markings - if you want any - and that'd look pretty darn cool, IMHO - kind of like a chapter of living magma-men.

I believe Fire Drakes are an Imperial Guard regiment. You can find a miniature painted as a Fire Drake in the current IG Codex.

thanks everyone, ive been MIA for the last 2 months. I havent gotten much painting done but I did paint a Rhino and a couple characters and they look amazing. I used a warm brown with orange highlights scheme. Some Red and Bright Greens. I will get some pics up eventually. They turned out really well. Still not firm on a name yet.

How about this?
Disciples of Tu'Shan
Tu'Shan is described in Codex: Armageddon as being the embodiment of the chapter's ideal, and that he's amazing, blah, blah... yea, you see where this goes.
Anyway, I think it would justify your splinter chapter, as Tu'Shan was a chapter master at some point.
Or, try this:
Sentinels of Prometheus
Prometheus is that huge moon that orbits Nocturne.
Here's another to chew on:
Chosen of Vulkan
Vulkan, their primarch. They are splintered from the Salamanders -> They left when Vulkan died/disappeared/whatever.
Just some ideas

It sounds good - I was a little hesitant to list it since it kinda doesn't make sense to be the son of a moon. Just food for thought, I guess. CK
