I'm just wondering which God the Alpha Legion fell to during the Horus Heresy. Or were they undivided?
Thanks

The Alpha legion have always been working for themselves. Or, at least, they think so.
The closest match would be Tzeentch. However, they aren't true Tzeentch followers.
Some think they have been working for the good of the Imperium, regardless of who is running it. Personally, I think they met their match and were duped by Tzeentch into helping the heresy.

They are undivided. That they didn't fall to chaos is hotly contested especially if you have read all the novels and since the novels are ongoing.

Oh right, I just thought they did, because they are in the bit of the CSM codex where it shows the chaos chapters armour/iconography

They HAD To help out the Traitor Legions in order to better the Imperium. The Heresey had to happen or else something entirely worse would happen. Thats the fun with the Alpha Legion, no one really knows whats is going on with them, even the Alpha Legion!

Are we sure this is in the right place though? Shouldn't this be in the Fluff section? Oh well, this is a great topic.
****Spoiler Alert. If you want to read the novels and not have anything given away do not read on! You have been warned.****

I am pretty sure this is correct. I don't know the whole story, I am only on "Battle for The Abyss", but from what I have read so far I am pretty sure the Cabal is being influenced by Chaos. They mentioned that they had reached out to the Dark Angels, and when Zahariel encounters what I assume to be the Cabal on Caliban I was pretty sure they were Chaos. And the Dark Angels codex ruined the story for me before I even knew the books existed, so we already know that Chaos was present on Caliban so I am with you on that.

They did join in the Heresy on Horus' side. They are a Chaos legion. The question is did they join because they wanted to and saw what they wanted to see in the vision of the future, or did they do it because they truly thought there was no other option. Based on how they handled the dismantling of Namitjira's entire fleet I am going with the former.

Its been a while since I read the Books but I seem to remeber thinking that the WATCHERS were Eldar like beings. Also in the Alpha Legion HH book at the end when the Legion Leaders were shown what will happen the Alpha Legion guys were pulled to the side and shown something extra that swayed them to help out Horus and his bunch. I cant remember if the things showing them the future we actual Chaos Daemons or some other sort of sentient group (Lizard Man Anchients perhaps )

The sad thing is they never go into detail about what they saw. The Cabal said that without the Heresy the Imperium would grow then collapse on itself and die out completely, but again was that the truth or Chaos' clever way of tricking them into doing their will?

IMHO Alpha Legion never fell to any of the gods of chaos and still to this day follow their own agenda.

Cabal is decidedly not Chaos, we see enough of their inner workings in Legion. Unless Eldar Autarchs are Chaos sorcerers now.
This would also mean that Dark Angels are Chaos-tainted, even though the Lion was willing to disown a bunch of his Caliban-born Astartes because they had a single brush with it.

They appear to follow Chaos Undivided in pretty much the same way the Black Legion does.
Whatever they planned to do during the heresy, now they are servants of chaos.

This. Whether or not they fell to chaos during the Heresy is irrelevant, for they most certainly serve chaos in the 41st millenium. And I would also agree that they serve chaos undivided.

You can't say they serve the Ruinous Powers with certainty, though. They could be like the Night Lords and only serve their own aims; no one really knows though. The thing you all have to remember is that they are the meta-infiltrators so it isn't out of the cards for them to be infiltrating Chaos of the good of Mankind.

Chaos Undivided. Alpha Legion does far too much damage/crazy gak with Cultists and Daemons for them to be secretly loyal nowadays.
Alpha Legion probably started out with good intentions, but has since been corrupted by Chaos. They're Inquisitor Quixos on a Legion level.

I can actually, because the last 40k book I read that contained the Alpha Legion showed them with possessed marines in their ranks and their commander was a daemon, Voldorius.

They don't have to be religious fanatics to serve chaos. A practical approach, service for power, like it is done by the Black Legion, the Iron Warriors and the Nightlords is likely mo.

Nothing says that the Traitor Legions HAVE to serve Chaos. While some might, others do not. Things do not have to be as one dimensional as you're implying.

They wouldn't be chaos space marines otherwise. Like it or not, all traitor legions are firmly in the chaos camp, either willingly or unwillingly furthering the plans of the Dark Gods.
Even Ahriman who thinks that he is out for himself does little more than to play his role in Tzeentch's convoluted plans.
