What do you think that race looks like? fluff friendly answers please so no pac man, family guy and all those lawls.

What type of troops would that race have?
What kind of race is it?

I was thinking it could be a race similar to the Umbras(40k), Safeguard bio machines from the comic blame!, or Metroid Primes, Plazon, X-Parasite from the metroid series. These types of races would be new and fresh compared to the current races and would also pose a problem for the nids due to they're nature. How about you guys? what race could you come up with?

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

This thread again?

I personally think that the concept of 'tyranids running away from something' is simply to make em seem less unstoppable/awesome.

If they were running away, I doubt they'd stop off at EVERY planet in their way, using them as fuel to invade yet more planets

Creepy moment when two alternative realities meet , the Reapers are chasing tyranids who are in turn being investigated by the Systems Alliance Fleet who's gone into a coalition with the UNSC , so I'd say a can of whoop ass is chasin the Tyranids . No more realistically I think it's power ful warp energies that the Tyranids would be running from , possible it's gotten so powerful outside that realm that the hive mind ( what ever it is) is fleeing from t

I've heard this idea of the 'Tyrannids running away from another race' before. Honestly, I've seen this in other forms of fiction and actually I'm actually quite curious to know where this concept started. Was this actually in the Tyrannid Codex? Or did this start online?

As for what they look like, I can only imagine race that has surpassed all technological measure, able to hide their true form, and with enough destructive capacity that would force the Tyrannids to realize they would have no hope of victory

If memory serves, the "perhaps they're fleeing something even more hideous" is simply an unsupported Imperial hypothesis in-universe, which has been around for years and years (possibly originating in the Inquisitor Kryptman shorts which were used to introduce the "revised" Tyranids in about 1990). On a literary level, just it's a cheap way of adding some extra tension; I very much doubt GW have ever given the matter any thought beyond that.

So, for the sake of it, let's say they're running away from... these guys.

Oh, I know it's in the present codex; my point was that the notion has been knocking about the fluff for many years, making it exceedingly unlikely that GW have ever intended to follow it up.

If it is true most likely would be warp energies, C'Tan, or an imploding universe.

It doesn't have to be a real threat to the Tyranids. It can be a threat from when they were a newish race. Not nearly as strong as they are now.

This other race could have been much stronger then the Tyranids at that time (Predators) and started the Tyranids on their rampage accross the universe.

Still running from a threat they could easily beat... But a threat that the Tyranids see as much larger then themselves.

I would think it could be a few things. It could be just a step above them in the foot chain. It could also be (as other have said) some synthetic race that cannot be eaten or consumed...a race of Golems would probably be hard for Tyranids to beat. You cannot poison or eat them. The third could be a race that preys off of the very way Tyranids thrive, by perpetually eating. If a race is something that requires to be eaten to gestate life, it would be the Tyranids worse nightmare. Eat animal, 2 days later the Tyranid rips apart with babies of the other race coming out. Tyranids eat babies, repeat cycle until Tyranids leave to stay alive.

Its obviously the Alpha legion driving the tyranids into this universe to destroy humanity and chaos so that chaos will never again rise to power.

They arent running, covered a million times before tbh
Nids are Nids, they dont really ever run, they just choose the best feeding grounds. Currently, out of the immediate (or even further Galactic planes) we are it.
Yummy Ork/Human Biomass.
Hell even Eldar taste nice and Crons have some biological element.

This other race could have been much stronger then the Tyranids at that time (Predators) and started the Tyranids on their rampage accross the universe.

Still running from a threat they could easily beat... But a threat that the Tyranids see as much larger then themselves.

But Nids dont think in terms of "threat" or "territory" or "fear" or "they are bigger than us".
They just are, dont assign human motives and feelings to them, leave them as an enigmatic super race that poses the ultimate threat, otherwise, its always gonna be Humans VS "human motives" (war, survival, territory, control, power,). A pretty tedious background, done to death imho :(

Let it lie OP

"Fear" is an instinctive thing not a thinking thing. All you need is for something to imprint itself onto the hive psychy as being a threat to its survival. And boom flight reflex.

Whatever it is will be 1000 times stronger than all of the current combined threats to the Imperium, but will have no impact whatsoever on it because plot armour.

Incorrect imho.
The Hive mind (imho) works almost like binary:

Is it worth consuming/will it give us the biomass we need VS the amount of biomass we have to expend against it to consume it.

Thats why so many people fluff-wise saw the Nids "running" from that Necron world in the 5th ed(?) fluff, trust me - they did not run/avoid it, they simply evaluated that, it would have been a catastrophic loss of biomass to consume a Necron Tomb word due to:
- Nearly no biomass there - desert/rocks etc
- Crons - tasty and eatable but very little actual biomass - which Nids thrive on
- It was a Splinter fleet that encountered that world, not a full Biofleet (so many people forget ths)

Basically, Nids dont have a fight/flight reflex, they have a "biomass/growth expenditure equation".

Where is Loki when I need him (her?), they are dissin our Nids!

The 'running away' theory has been in the codex since, IIRC, 3rd edition. I don't recall 2nd edition enough. However, there's been so many theories put forth in codices that none of them really hold any truth until GW decides to expand on one. They're al just there to generate discussion like this.

They do seem to show some strategic thinking. Gryphonne IV would have held as little biomass as a tomb world, yet they took it down. What taking a Forgeworld down does is weaken the defense of planets in the subsector, so outside of that, there was really no reason to attack it. So thinking on binary terms isn't really right.

Absolutely, I was too binary with them.
VS Macraggre, they also demonstrated serious initaive and "strategical awarerness", I just think too many times they're seen as mindless beasts :(

Imho the HM is arguably as powerful/intellectual as the Emperor or comparable beings (ofmg, did Brother Coa just resd this?! hehe).

Solemnace, Trazyn's tomb world was uncharacteristically avoided by Hive Fleet Behemoth. This shows that the Hive Mind weighed it's options before launching the attack. Which shows intellegence and with intellegence comes a fight or flight reflex. It's what allows advanced organisms to survive.
