This guy is right.. The One dimensional joke of painting bloodshot eyed elves standing on Marijuana leaf bases; you'd begin to question why. If anything, it would be a blemish on your character and a sure fire way to being considered TFG.

As for should you do it... probably not worth the effort. Although I do fail to see how the violence depicted and acted out in warhammer/other war games could be less offensive than smoking a C class drug that is a hell of a lot better for you than alcohol or tabacco (see related deaths). For example you would be punished a lot more if you decapitated someone with a chainsword than smoking weed.

Right, so here's the thing: You have a bucket of fruit. In the bucket of fruit, someone's stuck an SS pin, a miniature American flag, and... um... something stoners like. A 311 album or something.
In this context, you can freely compare all three of those things as being equally stupid and unfit to belong because they're IN A BUCKET OF FRUIT. A question of how offensive it is shouldn't even HAVE to come in to play, because none of the items should exist there to begin with.
Because I'm not 12 and weed isn't particularly funny. Seems juvenile and immature. What place does weed or any other drug have in gaming? None really so it isn't even particularly appropriate for the setting. If you or anyone else is into the marijuana culture it isn't my business or anyone elses BUT when you bring it to the table I am just going to roll my eyes. I'm not going to go off and tell you that responsible adults never use durgs because I think we all know that isn't always true. But none of the people I know that use drugs (very occasionally) that I would consider responsible would ever go around advertising the fact that once in a while they like to use marijuana recreationally. And they would never ever under any circumstances do anything that could possibly influence a minor to view drugs or drug use in a positive manner. So yes I would say it is stupid.

Hmm, there are definitely pot smokers with a narcissistic edge, but I find people with that sort of characteristic will come from any lifestyle. Plenty of people smoke pot, it's just the narcissistic ones who do it the most that go on about it. They get the most attention and influence everyone else' view of pot smokers. But narcissistic people can come from anywhere, think of rap artists. They are seen as a bunch of egotistical jackasses because it's the egotistical jackasses that get the most attention. That distracts from a lot of the more down to earth, and often times much more talented rap artists.
For the record, I knew it was a corny idea, I'm actually a relatively strict adherent to lore. I typically design armies to function on the tabletop as background would dictate over a more competitive approach.
But besides all that, this is all a fairly interesting discussion on dakka's attitude towards marijuana culture, cheesy themed armies, and oddly enough Nazi iconography.
I think you should do it if it's something you want to do. This is your hobby and your passtime. If people want to get offended over something you've done, oh well.
The older you get the less the opinions of others matter. When I see something I deem offensive I remove myself rather than impose my ideas of right/wrong/classy/classless on someone else.
If people really don't like it all they have to say is no thanks when you ask to play.

I agree, but actually being able to play the game is more important to me than some corny army idea. I've decided to make a diorama eventually, just a little display piece. I'll post pics on the showcase thread, but it may not be for a few months. I've already got a list I'm working through.

Not offended, but I think that GW has the same policy towards illicit drugs as they do towards profanity and I doubt you would be allowed to use it at a GW store.
Also, it's not a terribly bright idea, IMO.

In the US, yes it is. It's a federally regulated substance, state laws do not over-ride federal law. The state laws are pretty much there to get the ball rolling if anything.

A "weed elves" army seems like ridiculous attempt at getting attention, kinda like weed leaf ponchos/snuggies. If you want attention that bad, just paint your army really nicely. You don't have to resort to a gag army based on a (sorta) controversial issue.
