So some of the factions have been released.

Has anyone heard of others that haven't been made official? I'm personally hoping they reinclude the Greek City States, or Epirus, this time.

Hmm... reading the description for Macedon, it mentions them as a successor state. Does this mean we will have all the Greek states and Egypt won't mysteriously be Pharonic Egypt for no reason?

Nice to see them using some spiffy names. I love some of the things their doing. Picking a faction in Carthage's political civil war? Awesome.

Given that Greece wasn't the most popular of the factions in Rome, but Macedon was, it's possible Greece will be an NPC this time around while Macedon becomes a playable faction. It's also possible there will be no Greek faction, since the Greek City States were not united at this time period.

Does this mean we will have all the Greek states and Egypt won't mysteriously be Pharonic Egypt for no reason?

There was a reason. They already had Greece, Macedon, and Selucia, for successor armies. Making Egypt Ptolemic Egypt, while historically accurate, would make it pretty much identical to Selucia and just another successor state. Maybe it's not a reason people like, but it is a reason.

Ptolemic Egypt was a successor state, but where the other states made their regions more greek like, Ptolemy let the Egyptians keep most of their customs and traditions intact. There was still a heavy greek influence though.

I mean in terms of gameplay. Phalanx/Cavalry Army with Chariots. The more Classical Egyptian styling not only allowed a different visual aesthetic, it let them defer Egypt from the other Greek factions by giving them a focus on phalanx/bows and axmen.

I liked playing as the Greeks. No playable greeks makes me a sad panda

Of course the Selucids were a million times more awsome(I can have Legionaires, Hoplites, AND Elephants?, yes please) so I really hope they stay.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Seems the March edition of PC gamer has a lot of 'juicy' new info and screens but they couldnt post scans on the site :(

Gonna go into town tomorrow to see if it is on sale but I dont have high hopes as someone said the next issue doesnt get put on stands till the 14th

All the OP said was that it walks through the battle of Teutoberg forest which apparantley confirms another faction in the game atleast but I have little knowledge of the battle.

Cant wait to read the new info though

Likewise, the Greeks are my favorite faction. I'll be sad if they don't hit again, but it won't suprise me since I've seen some of the other factions now. I'd bet that we'll see the Kingdom of Epirus as a playable faction though.

Well there seems to be 3 more playable factions, 1 of whom will undoubtably be Germans.

Rome 2 is also supposed to be designed to be much more mod friendly than the likesof Shogun 2 so if there isn't playable Greeks in the base game it will be modded in.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

They'd have to have more then just 7 player factions. There is three European Barbarian player factions out of 7? That just doesn't seem right.

My Guess for the Factions: Rome, Gaul, Britainna, Germania, Iberia, Macedon, Egypt, Selucia, Parthia, Thrace.

According to the page that you linked to there are 8, 5 are known and 3 are "coming soon".

Just 1 Roman faction. It's not split into 4 this time.

Someone kindly gave people the information in the PC gamer mag and there are now height variations even within single units and the journalist comments how terrifying it is to see 6 foot tall naked barbarians smash into a line of romans

Nope, you can be 'Roman', and then one of 3 ruling families.....but not Brutii...

Total War Wiki wrote:As a playable faction, Rome benefits economically from its excellence in metalwork, enjoys enhanced military development, and can exploit the masses in order to maintain public order. Furthermore, the player will choose to conduct the affairs of Rome as the head of one of three great Roman houses: The Julia, The Cornelia, and the Junia, each of which brings further economic, military and cultural benefits.

Gameplay over historical accuracy is one of the better choices they made.

Perhaps mixing them up with the Huns? They are similar people sort of so it might be easy to confuse them

Yeah, although the Huns were more towards the end. They didn't show up till after the Empire had split.

We all know there will be expansions. One of them will probably be equivalent to Barbarian Invasion II

Indeed. I do love historical accuracy, but I can see CA does a mountain of work on that as is, so I don't demand they be perfect

I only just found my old Rome 1 disc in a cupboard last week. Been playing it non stop ever since! The new trailer looks brilliant even when Youtube insists on playing it in 240p, intensely excited now. I must try to brush up on my battlefield tactics instead of letting the AI do it for me, the Carthage trailer looked too good to miss!
