Subject: M-a-M Olifant pattern tank turret kit. New release 08/20/14

Hey everyone
I've been designing and building bits and pieces for wargaming or years, mainly due to prefering to build bits myself rather then buy them. However with the support of friends, dakka(ites) and the guys and Critical mass (thanks Craig and Dale) I've finally decided to start a small business selling them. I will be keeping this updated with new items as I cast them as I have notes upon notes with concepts and scribbles on them. Also hopefully more advanced bits as I aquire the bits to cast them.
A website will be comming soon..hopefully
c+c always welcome guys.
All parts are cast in polyeurethane resin and will require cleaning before painting.
Thanks
Jim-MaM

Already working on a prototype for Humanitys finest tank armour.
I'll have a fiddle with some winter type bases this weekend. I'll post what I come up with.

Why did I spend all my money on other things this week!!
Are the chimera side panels designed to fit on the new style chimeras or the old style?

They fit on both as they are flat backed. I have however had a few pictures of people who have built up a whole hanging system like WWII schurzen.

I normally lurk but I wanted to ask, other than cost why did you design the gun with 2 barrels and not 4?
On a side note, you should build an addon that takes an ork seated behind the gun and that is sized properly to be mounted on the bed of an ork sized truck to be used as a mobile weapon platform. You could call it a "flakk trukk."
It's a great kit overall. For here in the states I think the cost may be too similar to the regular defense line to make to make it a must buy over that, but for someone looking for an alternative to the standard model it's a good deal.

I wanted something more akin to modern automated aa flak systems, like the gepard, zsu etc hence the radrome on the front. And I wanted something a bit different to all the other 4 gun ork aa to begin with .. But there is a mk2 in development that can be used as a vehicle mount with 4 guns. It is on my to do list.
First up though is the ork atillery........

Good luck with your new business, it looks promising.
Can I pass on a word of advice; don't use any GW mini or part of a GW mini in ANY promotional photos. That means, pics of your bits on their tank, their minis with your artillery etc. If you do, it will only be a matter of time before their IP lawyers come after you.

Yeah probably best to remove any mention of GW named items and pics with orks from them. Last thing you want to put up with is a chapterhouse style legal battle.
Maybe you could use some 3rd party mini that's close to GW's look? Kromlech makes awesome mini's, maybe they'd be cool with it.
Also, I'm going to have to get a few of those kannons, those look awesome.

I'm liking all of this except the turret. The use of the base (or something that looks very much like a base) on the front of it makes it look like a scratchbuild rather than a professional release.
The cannon is a thing of beauty, though.

I like the cannon a lot. I'm not so fond of the muzzle brake, but the carriage is awesome, especially the wheels. $11+$3USD? Great price too.

Wise advice. It's an Orc Defense Line, not a "Ork Aegis Defence Line". You need to protect yourself.

I love that orc artillery piece (this is how you should spell it as mentioned plenty of times above). Only thing I don't really like is the tip of the barrel, what I think Ouze is calling a "muzzle brake". If that could just be a normal open end of a barrel, it'd be fantastic!
I have a feeling that will be a common piece of feedback, if it is maybe it's an easy change...

I sort of agree and disagree... I love the design with the muzzle brake, but it doesn't seem overly orcy... More like a weapon that has been stolen from someone else, rather than built by the orcs.

which fits orks pretty well too.
I always thought ork stuff looked best when it was a combination of scratch built and looted tech.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was getting at, but appear to have left off my post. It would look ok as a single stolen weapon... Less fitting for an entire battery, IMO.

Whelp because I'm feeling jolly right now, and you guys have helped with ip issues, I'm willing to let you design a muzzle brake and I will make it on the cannon for you. Feel free to edit pics or send scribbles etc and I will make it and cast it for you. (can't say fairer then that)
All the best

Thankyou
As for the the front of turret it is just a rounded piece of plastic to look like a radrome ( it was cut slightly smaller then a base and rounded, although now you've mentioned it.......) There is going to be a redesign of the turret as there were a few bits I look at now and think "hmmm"

The 2 new style brakes are both great! I'm not as big a fan of the laser, but the last one (the mortar) is suitably orcy . Nice to see the feedback taken so quickly, and the product greatly improved as a result!
