So I'm thinking of doing a new army for 40k to rekindle some interest for me in the game and some cool conversion work. I've always wanted to try playing Space Marines because I love Assault Terminators and Sterngaurd in the book, but my favorite army is CSM due to how they look and a lot of the background. I was thinking to build an Iron Warriors army and run it under both CSM and SM books. I feel like if under Space Marines I aimed for an Imperial Fists list, it could work. Just wanted some feedback on this idea if people would think this could work or not. Thanks!

It could work, sure... you'd have to be careful not to take some of the Marines' newer toys, or model them to suit. I'm talking things like the Thunderfire, Stormtalon, Stormraven... all things Iron Warriors wouldn't have access to unless they'd looted them.

Honestly, you've got plenty of options for making a fluffy Iron Warriors list out of the Chaos Codex. Just mech everything up! Warpsmith is an obvious choice, as are Maulerfiends, Forgefiends, Heldrakes, Helbrutes, Predators, Land Raiders, and Havocs. Then your normal Marine troops can take Rhinos to keep up too. That's a heck of a starting roster.

It would require some work, but how about running the Deathwing Command Squad as Wordbearers? How about some Dark Apostle/Chaos monks pushing the ruinous powers?
