Since I'm assuming the strategic cards aren't essential (pen and paper will do for me).

I'm probably just going to get the rulebook, plus the templates, unless some company like waylandgames decide to do a pretty awesome bundle deal with real savings.

Unlike say, totalwargamers... Really, who'd want to buy both a lord of skulls and a tesseract?

Nope. Now you get to pay 50% more so you can get both the Shadowsword and Baneblade gun sprues. Of course since you can't build both variants at once this just means you pay 50% more for a bunch of scrap plastic you're never going to use.

The spawn tide has more than doubled in price and no longer has the CSM squad. Would it really have killed GW to have some kind of discount? I was looking forward to dropping a good bit of money in this release but now I'll probably just get the rule book.

Yeah, the rulebook, templates cause I didn't have the old ones, and maybe the cards. If they'd done a splash discount like before I'd probably spend stupid amounts of money. But thankfully they didn't......

To me, the part of the Lord of Skulls that looks good is the part that looks just like an oversized CSM; I find the rest of it looks terrible.
The tesseract vault looks awesome, although I'm less of a fan of the obelisk.

I can't see the appeal of the collector's or gamer's editions though: the former looks to me like you're largely paying £105 to have the rulebook split into sections with a little bit extra and strategic assest cards; whilst the latter's a £105 case...?

Welp, no mention of a non-iPad version at launch. That's disappointing.

Formations are all full price one-click bundles. Expected but disappointing.

It *looks* like the main book will be the same size as the rest of the 40k hardbound books, so that's pleasant. It also looks like it bound similarly. So, the book itself will be higher quality this time around... that's nice.

They have a formation for the Fortress of Arrogance, so it looks like they're keeping in units that they don't make explicit models for, as long as it's a fairly simple conversion off of the main kit. They also have shots of a Reaver titan, so FW stuff should be in. I was a little concerned that they might push FW models to only having rules in FW books.

So, eh, nothing too surprising. I'll be getting a copy of the rulebook, probably some templates, and I don't expect much else.

So pre-order for the book, templates, dice cube etc all in....email confirmation received.

I was tempted to go a little mad this evening if they were offering some deals on complete formations.....Tank Company / Armored Fist Formation etc....

And behold the Tank Company is £310 and represents no saving at all.....so instead of me spending £300 - 400 I spent like £90. I might as well buy ten at Dark Sphere or similar...

Sometimes GW annoy me considerably....would a 20 to 25% reduction kill that much?

So Baneblades, etc have a rules blurb that they can be used for any army, so no Forge Org restrictions in Apoc thank god.

I've been expecting an AA splash since they made fliers the new hotness. To be fair, I was (and still am) expecting a full AA expansion along the lines of Death From the Skies. And, no, don't track me Pretre, I'm just being a curmudgeon, not a monger.

Only thing i am tempted by are the Firestorm and vengeance so far, if there are no bundle discounts like reported i will be a sad panda

The 40k rules for Firestorm and Vengeance are included in the box of the kit. The Apocalypse rules are in the book.
