It picks up the can or it gets the shock baton.

In the future, scanning your ID tatoo will not only help your local overseer determine (likely via XBox) whether you are allowed to vote/if your "vote" will be counted but also whether you are eligible for medical treatment by allowing health care professionals immediately access to your biometirc history and insurance coverage information.

Of course these are only a few potential benefits of the program. The applications for keeping the undesirables in their place streamling public life with private industry sensibilities are endless. All brought to you by the GOP.*

Blame the GOP but the ACA is all Democrat, including sharing data across departments.

You know, I think somebody could honestly sell me on state issued bar codes. Not because I'm particularly fond of the idea of being immediately traceable at any point in time, just because I have the magical ability to always lose my ID. Especially right before I need it for something.

See, political discussions on Dakka are much more fun if we drop the tissue-thin pretense of being reasonable people with serious views and just frantically wrap our skulls in tin foil (or throw off dowdy top hats to reveal already-tinned pates) while reveling shamelessly in dystopic scifi allusions. Now how about a round of wiener dog jokes! Government-issued IDs for all wiener dogs or its to the pound! (law already in place, rest easy citizens)

Proof of citizenship was easy for me, also. Getting proof that satisfied the Federal government passport requirements took eight months though. Stupid California has so much fraud that the Fed won't except "Birth Extracts" as proof.

Manchu...remove the pic you posted. Its a "Body tag"...basically you just posted someone last four SSN. The first two number are the middle SSN to confirm the body. I have one similar on my body except mine is "15 ? ? ? ?. Its a tattoo on a "recoverable" piece of body incase of close encounter with a IED or something explosive in nature.

If somebody post a picture of their partial social on the Internet then they can't really complain if it is posted elsewhere.

Well whoever it belongs to posted it on the internet so if it was a secret it is a little late. If it were just the number I could see the issue, but they made it into artwork and showed the world, so I don't think this is meant to be sacred or a secret.

What makes you think it is a mistake? I didn't say you were wrong to have the thoughts and feelings you had, I just gave a reasonable alternative, i.e. they want people to see it so they shared it.

Yup, lost in one of the big warehouse fires that happened during the base drawdowns in Europe. Burned up, except for an old copy of a copy that we had. So we had no official proof that I was the child of a US citizen and had citizenship through that. Had to go get original birth records from Germany and marriage certificates for my parents (who are long divorced), get them translated, then submitted, then spend a few trips to different court houses to file more papers and give sworn statements that I didn't just come out of a swamp bubble and some calls to a congress critter. Keep in mind that this was pre 9/11 though, so I would imagine that it is even more fun now.

It wasn't impossible, but it is definetly hard. And I had the resources and connections in two countries to make this all happen. What if I didn't have family left in Germany that could get me all the required paperwork from there? What if I didn't have the means to physically go to all these different agencies and courts? What if I didn't have the money to pay for legal translation services on my German birth certificates.

I'm not saying that for the majority of people it is pretty easy to get proof of citizenship. Now that all this is over for me, I simply hand my passport over and the problem is taken care of.

But simply say "everybody can just prove their citizenship, it's not a big deal" is wrong.

I can relate to this. The paperwork I had to fill in just to go to the States for a holiday really got my goat! You would think that somebody who was going there to spend a lot of cash would be welcome in these tough economic times!

Both TBone and Rodney have chips in them. Not really necessary for TBone as he moves about 1/10 a mile an hour now.

If your records were " lost in one of the big warehouse fires that happened during the base drawdowns in Europe" then that is far from a typical situation, and a situation that not many people are likely to experience. I'm sorry that you had to go trough it, but please stop treating an isolated and minor incident as a major hurdle for proving who you are.

So your experience is "more evidence" than the many thousand that have to prove their identity to apply for US visas each year?

I don't give a rat's ass about voter fraud, but when I went and voted in 2011 (did absentee in 2012), I needed a valid driver's license/state id with an address that matched the address on my voter registration (of which it didn't, since I had moved between when I registered to vote in 2006 and when I needed it in 2011).

Currently to vote in the United States (barring individual state laws) a person needs to be:
A Citizen of the United States (either by birth such as me, or naturalized such as Dreadclaw69)
18 years of age

The article in the OP states that voter registration is often handled when a person gets a driver's license and that the US voter registration has a box to check that states under penalty of perjury that you declare you are a valid US Citizen. To get that driver's license you need (in most cases):
US born

US Birth Certificate or Registration of Birth (Hospital issued not acceptable; foreign place of birth see Non-US Born)
US Passport or Passport Card

Non-US born

Foreign Passport w/ supporting documents (See Legal Presence noted below)*
Certificate of Naturalization*
Certificate of Citizenship*
Permanent Resident Card*
Consular Report of Birth Abroad

So if you show something that shows you're a citizen of another country, you can get a US driver's license (My roommate last summer was a citizen of Guatemala, resides in Arizona, but has an Ohio Driver's License ), but no voter registration for you.

I just don't think it's a hassle for people to have IDs to prove they are who they say they are, when you need an ID for most things in today's day and age.

I know. It's objectionable to ask for ID to vote. But perfectly fine if you want to buy a beer, drive a car, apply for credit, buy a gun, apply for some jobs etc.
