I was just wondering what peoples experiences have been with the chaos boon table, via gift of mutation and champion of chaos.
Has it been a thorn in your side, a waste of time, and points?
Has it added that sprinkle of flavour and the fun competitive edge?
In my last 5 games:
Game 1 vs Eldar - Khorne juggerlord: instant death with gift of mutation and because of it was able to kill a wraithknight...that won me the game.
Game 2 vs dark eldar - Khorne juggerlord: Gift roll was nothing of note.
Game 3 vs Tau - Khorne juggerlord: +1 Wound via gift of mutation which was worth the points but i still got instant deathed by a riptide...
Game 4 vs Imperial Fists - Khorne Juggerlord rolled +1 toughness for gift of mutation, charge terminators with chapter master killed the terminator sergeant and got turned into a spawn. The spawn roll almost lost me the game.
Game 5 vs Imperial Fists - Nurgle Fisticlaw Lord on Bike rolled Fleshbane but got shot to death after killing 5 scouts.
In all cases except 1 my rolling for the gift has been really good and worth it. The Champion of chaos boon roll has never been a help and has been a game breaker.
What is other peoples experiences with gift of mutation and boon of chaos, is it having a big impact on your games?

But iv had games against it. also not gift of mutation
A chaos lord was locked in combat with my iridium armor tau commander for about 4 turns. when he finally killed him the chaos god deemed him NOT WORTHY for taking too long.
I've never seen it screw someone over. (I don't play Chaos, but many of my opponents do.) In all but one game it's been 'okay,' not giving anything super useful, but giving a little bit extra here and there. In my second game against the new Chaos codex, it completely turned the game around for my opponent. He assaulted some Chaos bikers into my broadsides, the sergeant killed my shas'ui, and turned into a demon. The amount of time I had to spend killing that stupid demon meant I didn't have any time (or units) to kill the hellturkey that was barreling down on my gunline. I had it all sewn up before that charge, too.
Best results: Chaos Lord getting +1 Armour saves to start, and then grabbing Eternal Warrior after the first kill. No more instant death from S8+ Power fists/Dreadnoughts and Wraithknights. That turned a game around for me.
Generaly it doesn't matter , but last time I played my opponent Tzeench Mace DP used his shoting psychic power and precise shot one of my sgts , for that he got turned in to a spawn , which on my turn died . I still lost the game , because of 4 helldrakes , but the points he lost from getting his warlord killed ment he ended up 5th and didn't get any prize from the tournament , so I was more then happy.
I've had mixed results when play against CSM. From Typhus turning into a spawn after killing an Exarch (first roll on the table) to a Sorcerer on a Bike getting Shrouded.
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Daemon Princes don't have Champion of Chaos, he shouldn't have turned into a spawn.
I think the best I have ever had happen to me was using Boon of Mutation to try and kill my Cultist Champion and the bloody guy survived (Rolled a 6! Made his armor save /flex) then turned into a Spawn >.>
Other times I had BoM'd my Tzeentch Daemon Prince to get mechanoid (2+ armor save) and proceeded to stomp everything...
Once I even got +1T for my Nurgle Daemon Prince and he had amazing memories come back to him of previous editions....

I've been doing fine with them. Only once I've get the unworthy offering result and never the spawn or demon prince. I did see a game where the chaos player didn't complain though when his cultist champion managed to get a roll on the table and turned into a demon prince.

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.
Now, before I begin, keep in mind that my most common foe was a Tyranid player meaning very few characters to fight.
Never anything useful. +1 to deny the with in a match against a DA player that only used divination his own units, +1 wound on a champion that soon after would be smashed, one time I got +1 to my bs on a champion that had no ranged weapon. Then... there are the thousand or so times that it has given me nothing at all and the single time even becoming a chaos spawn.
In general... it's been neutral with a slight tinge of negativity.
I hardly ever get to roll on the boon table because of how many shooty and "run away cause were elves hurhur" armies are in my meta. Every time I do though it always starts with a 1. So I close the book and move along. I've gotten Eternal Warrior one time on a Sorcerer who was in the back with Oblits (woo).
However there was one situation where TFG was participating in a tournament. He assaulted with some zombies (after running btwwtf?) and his zombie champion rolled Multiple rewards, which CLEARLY state reroll Spawn/Daemon Prince. Well sure enough he can't read and his zombie champion turns into an Eternal Warrior Daemon Prince and wins the game for him.
First turn, my Tz DP casts Boon of Mutation on himself and turns into a Spawn.
Kill team game: My Aspiring Sorcerer kills a Sybarite (took me a minute to remember what it was, lol) and turns into a daemon prince.
That was kinda fun.

At the ATC, running Chaos Space Marines with Daemon Allies. I have a Sorcerer as my warlord, but have Fateweaver in my allied detachment.
Sorcerer is with a unit of cultists, I'm playing against DE. Staggered remains of a Beastpack makes it into my backfield and charges my Sorcerer and Cultists. Sorcerer challenges and kills a beastmaster. Beasts kill all my cultists. I'm about to be looking at a snake eyes roll to keep my Sorcerer from being swept. We look up Champion of Chaos, it says you roll immediately. I roll a 6 and a 1. I use my Fateweaver reroll on the 1, and turn my Sorcerer into a DP. Yeah, he loses his powers, but he gains fearless. My Warlord isn't swept. Hilarious.
Armies: Lokisons (The Rout), Sluts and Puppies: A Chaos Daemon Experience (Daemons), PDF of the Union of Surviving Slavic Regimes (Imperial Guard), The Dead Live! (Chaos Marines), Loke's Blokes (Orks), The Kabal of the Hidden Blade (DE)

Yup.
I don't get any of what he was doing... One, his Zombies are Slow and Purposeful, so they CAN'T run. Two, you can't buy the champion any Gift of Mutation from the army list, you can only earn it in-game. Three, when turning into a daemon prince, you lose all rewards and special rules except for Power Armour and the mark of chaos turns him into a daemon of that god. Lastly, Daemon princes can't earn more mutations during the game because they are not Champions of Chaos anymore.
I have only played a couple of small games with CSM so far as I have only just started the army.
So far I have only had a sorceror kill a farseer with a force weapon and roll unworthy offering and an aspiring champion kill a guard sergeant and turn into a daemon prince!
That was a fun game.
I haven't used gift of mutation yet but my sorceror is going to have it in my next game so will see how that goes.
Overall I think it is a fun little addition which gives you a potential reward for being forced to risk your characters in challenges.
Sure, it has it's risks and some of the results could potentially be useless for certain characters, but such is the way of Chaos.....

Chaos Space Marines - Iron Warriors & Night Lords 7900pts
My experience will it is overwhelmingly Negative. (at least with champion of chaos). Most results are meh for many characters (oh look I went from BS5 to BS6, or my Bolter is S5 now...) and the bad results (Daemon Prince (for any HQ choice), and Spawn) are both game breakingly terrible (I lost a tournament game once because my Sorcerer Killed a Necron Overlord and turned into a Daemon prince.)
The Daemon Prince result has 2 negative portions to it.
1.) You lose all your gear and psychic powers. So instead of being a force multiplier you are not just a close combat beast. They really should have let you keep your powers and abilites (make this an uber good result, instead of one you don't want.)
2.) You become unengaged. This is the part that cost me the game, you go from beating up a character to standing around dumbfounded. When this happens on your turn, you most often then get shot to death...
Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.
Mostly +1S to weapon or +1BS, sometimes it is awesome however
Small tourney this weekend - always a juggerlord with Axe
Game 1 - reroll armour, against necrons. Only small amount of AP3+ shooting, golden. 20 tesla wounds, 1 failed save, helped win game
Game 2 - turned into DP in middle of guard blob squad. Due to losing half my average number of attacks he feels free to decline challenge, as his power axes can squish me. Cost me the game.
Game 3 - +1S facing white scars. Meant I killed a ton (wounding on 2s, no saves = nice) BUT killed so many they ran away. Dead from shooting
Game 4 - against Iron Hands, gained Fear (wooh!) but then killed 2 more characters, gaining T6 and 2+ save. Won me the game as vindicators were no longer an issue, and bolters werent a problem
Game 5 - Eternal warrior from first roll, facing 2 vindicators (UM successor Howling Griffons) but forgot I had this, and ran the long way. KIlled a wolf lord to gain +1 armour save. DIed when my now solo juggerlord was shot by *everything*, including one assault cannon managing 3 rends....
Most of the time it is useless, however in other tournaments I've managed +1AS when leading bezerkers into the mouth of battlecannons - lost ONE zerker on the way over! - or the multiple rewards.
First time I used the codex, I got Ahriman into close combat to keep him safe and he murders the character only to turn into a useless daemon prince. I also lost one of my aspiring sorcerers this way too. In the same game no less. He turned out to be somewhat useful. Overall though I felt betrayed by the table as I lost a lot of firepower in one go. It was my first game with the new Chaos Marines though. Not a. good way to form an opinion of an army.

How did he turn into a DP in the middle of the IG blob, you are unengaged, and if you cannot be placed within 3" of your now removed character, you die....Sure it can be good, but most of the time, when it is good, it is just a win more thing. Your Juggerlord was already a beast, now he is a super beast...when it goes bad though it is terrible.

Am I wrong on this guys?
My point exactly. I walked over in the after game and basically let him know he broke about every possible rule he could have in the span of one assault phase. I forgot to mention he somehow determined he got 80 attacks on the charge from 20 zombies.
I've rolled on the table about a dozen times, and never got anything useful. I got +1 BS for Huron (who doesn't have a shooting attack), and I got EW twice on models that only had one wound left anyways, and I got ID once with huron (who got it from killing the last multi-wound model my opponent had on the table), and once with my Lvl3 sorcerer (who already has a force weapon). Plus a few dud sacrifices.
I think the only thing I've gotten that I've ever used was once I got meteoric charge and then managed to get a charge in, but that was pretty small peas (don't think I even did any damage with it).

Actually the ID is still useful on the Sorcerer, because then you don't need to use a Warp Charge and LD check, it's certainly better then the +1BS on a unit with a flamer or such.
