... stand with their legs wiiiiiiide apart? I haven't seen one mini with its feet close together, as though it's just standing still.
I get that most people will want their minis to be in some sort of dynamic pose, but one or two in a state of relaxation would be nice.
Or do Space Marines have really big packages, and need some room to breathe?
"If I advance, follow me. If I retreat, shoot me. If I fall, avenge me. This is my last command to you all. FORWARD!!"
Very likely also some historical reasons for that pose. The really old RT era marines needed to have widely spaced legs for modeling and/or "heroic scale" purposes, and the trend stuck.
Its probably just offing a stance for balance rather than them having big balls, but then again from the shape of the armour I don't think they would be able to get their legs together anyway, either that or they are waiting for slanesh to have its way
If you actually look at the models most of them are leaning to the side, I would assume this is either because they are moving toward something, leaning back from something or preparing to absorb recoil from firing their weapon, or have just absorbed recoil from their weapon. Assault Marines do not have this problem as they are meant to look mobile. Tactical Marines are meant to look static in comparison to other Space Marine kits.

i prefer running poses even on standard bolter guys.
they have no excuse for making grey knights so static and boring.

If you want running poses buy 'Advancing' Death Korps of Krieg.
The old second edition multi-part plastic marines actually had a really nice walking leg pose. Alas, it was about the only one, save from some walking legs in the Dark Angels robed set..
At least the "legs akimbo" poses aren't as bad as the running legs from the Berzerkers set...........

"By this point I'm convinced 100% that every single race in the 40k universe have somehow tapped into the ork ability to just have their tech work because they think it should."
You see that, then you know why. If SM had their legs closed together, like they were standing, it looks like they have to go pee really really badly.
Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

It's due to the previous limitations of the sculpting process. If you look at the old RT metals and the first 2E plastics they're mono-pose almost single piece models but they still have that squat.
If you want more relaxed or striding legs go look at Forge World's marines. Most of them come with at least 2/5 of the legs as striding. Also any assault marine will usually have either jumping or striding legs. Straighter legs make marines much, much taller.
Isn't it largely because the Spehss Mareenz wear giant arse flares for no good reason.
Marines are extremely concerned about protecting their shins for some reason, and unfortunately that means they can't put their legs together.
There are a few "running" marine legs, but they all look to me like if the marine actually completed a stride, the lower leg armour would collide because of the giant flares.

What? Most of them are in their late teens when they're inducted, 17-20's rightly. They're not Halo Spartans abducted when they're five years old.
Although dammit OP for dooming us to a discussion of space marine genitals.
Actually, most chapters recruit boys who are prepubescent. The older they get, the lower the chance of success (it could be assumed that prior to puberty would be the most optimal point). By time someone's 17-20, they'd generally be regarded as far too late for treatment.

Guys, guys, I've got the answer. If you head over to fanfiction.com, you'll find out that not only do space marine's genitalia work, but cortana and mastercheif once had sex! /sarcasm.

Tell that to the Space Wolves...
That is a whole separate discussion, you REALLY don't want their reporductive organs!
It's actually because one mostly ignored replacement organ, Laramans firehose. It enables Space Marines to shower their foes in burning acid from 5 meters distance for over two minutes. However, should the hose be bended without care, the resulting pressure may create a rupture at the kink and cause the whole marine to explode. True facts, i'm serious

Certainly GW's never been inconsistent in their background material, allowed for variation between chapters, or deliberately changed the explanation of the process over time. Certainly not.
Of course, once upon a time that standing stance looked good, and meant that the model fit in the same space as the rest of the models. Now, they could probably benefit from standing a bit taller.

What? No they don't. Hell, I haven't ever even seen material ever pointing to which, ever, save maybe some fluff in the codex or rulebook which comes up once, which is then washed away by the Black Library. Aspirants are always refereed to as 'youths', not to mention the times we've actually seen them and the process of induction, they were seven years old at least if not in their twenties.
EDIT
And the wikis state that they're adolsecent males. So the point's fairly bunk considering they state their sources to be the Codices and the Black Library always has them being adolescents to adults in my experience.

The actual ages of recruitment are never mentioned AFAIK. It probably varies as wildly as chapter's recruitment methods do. The most that is mentioned for some chapters is that new Space Marines are selected as aspirants as early teens. The implantations only begin when they are neophytes, which is likely to only be in their late teens (judging from the fact that neophytes are already deployed in combat) So while they are selected at an early age, the actual process transforming them into Astartes does not take place until the aspirant's late teens.
Also, there are no mentions AFAIK of Space Marines being castrated (which would once again be a horrible thing to do from a practical POV) In fact, there are mentions of Salamanders having families. There is also a mention of Logan Grimnar having sons, but that may be a poetical reference to the warriors of his Great Company, since it is part of one of Phil Kelly's failed attempts at writing a saga.
Uhm, I think some chapters recruit proven warriors or gangers or other capable persons from their recruiting worlds (or wherever they may pass if they are fleet-based). That means at least late teens. Hard to gain some street cred that would impress marines otherwise.
