After 2 years, I downsized.
I now only have a Falcon and Slave 1 model.

I gave the dice, all the other ships, markers, counters and templates to other guys who actively played it. It's a nice game - but way too simple for my liking.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

That's a shame. I find each wave adds another layer of complexity.

Got two new ships, which slowly builds up my collection:

3 X-Wings
1 Y-Wing
1 A-Wing
1 YT-1300

5 TIE Fighters
2 TIE Advanced
1 TIE Interceptor
1 TIE Bomber

The TIE Bomber was a random purchase, but I'm just slowly trying to build up my list by completing the waves as they were released. So I still need the Slave-1 to catch up with Wave 2. My next planned purchase will be that and then one more TIE Interceptor, and then I'm thinking about getting another Y-Wing and A-Wing and the Imperial Aces to round out the Interceptors.

I just started this game literally today. Sorry for the bump but here are my forces as of this minute:

Imperials:

3 Tie Fighters
2 Tie Bombers
2 Tie Defenders
3 Tie Interceptors (2 from Aces)
3 Tie Phantoms
1 Shuttle
1 Firespray

Rebels:

1 X-Wing

Ordering next week:

2 Shuttles
2 Firespray
1 Advance
2 Imperial Aces

I hate this game, it is freaking addicting and amazing all wrapped up in a ball of awesome.

I really really like the model. There is no tactical reason for it in my designs.

and yet a shuttle heavy or all shuttle list is quite playable. You going to paint any differences on them?

Finally got my Z-95 squad up to eight and filled out my Defender squad of three. I will probably get another HWK-290 tomorrow and am going out for a second Lambda this evening.

Next up -- 3x Rebel Aces, Decimator, and Outrider. I am wondering whether I should go ahead and get two YT-2400s or what.

I've pre-ordered two rebel aces, a decimator and an outrider. It's nice to finally have caught up with the previous waves, and be pre-ordering stuff. (Means I can start padding out my infinity stuff in time for third edition.) Always too many shinies, and not enough monies!

I remember fondly preordering the original core set, and one of each Wave 1 ship. At the time I had been a fan of Wings of Glory and had a leg up on knowing, in broad strokes, I would enjoy the game (and LOVE the setting).

Long story short... I began the guy in the now famous X-wing Miniatures Game comic strip.

http://direman.com/direman/comics/00001066.png

Mistakes were made... and now, despite having once sold off my entire collection (due to sheer stupidity on my part), I have re-built it to this...

Rebels:
- X-wing x4 (Two starter, one blister, one Rebel Transport)
- Y-wing x1
- B-wing x3 (Two blisters, one Rebel Aces)
- A-wing x2 (One blister, one Rebel Aces)
- Hwk 290 x1
- Z-95 Headhunter x2
- E-Wing x1
- YT-2400 x1
- Tantive/CR-90 Epic Ship x1
- Rebel Transport Epic Ship x 1

Imperials:
- Tie Fighter x6 (Four starter, two blister)
- Tie Advanced x1
- Tie Interceptor x3 (One blister, two Imperial Aces)
- Tie Bomber x2
- Tie Defender x1
- Tie Phantom x2
- Slave One x1
- Lambda Shuttle x1
- VT-49 Decimator x1

Out of curiosity, what is with all the 'but you can only use x many of those ships in your 100 point squad' posts? Does nobody play more than 100 pt games? I've actually only ever played 200 pts...

I only play 100 points. Perhaps later in my X-Wing "career" I'll try bigger games.

Sure, I can only use X ships per game, but I have 40+ lists printed out that I am looking to try (both Rebel and Imperial).

Well seeing as I've been eyeing this game for a while, and after all my scale bitching in the Armada thread, I decided to jump in on X-Wing. Specifically for the TIE fighters.

Specifically the FLGS was Static Games. Really chilled and friendly staff. They brought up more X-Wing stock for me to riffle through and they had a decent amount. Definitely recommend if your in the area. Also they have an online shop as part of the larger business so definitely worth checking out. I think the discounts are only in the shop itself, but the online store seems pretty well stocked.

Went down to a FLGS in Glasgow today to have a look at the stuff in person. To my surprise and pleasure most of the TIE variants were reduced by about 20-30%. They didn't have the starter set sadly so I went a bit ham on TIEs.

4* TIE Fighters
2* TIE Interceptors
1* TIE Bomber
1* TIE Defender

I'm sure that I won't be able to use all of this at once but felt that it would be a healthy base to start out some various TIE fighter heavy lists.

Still want to get a few more of each type because I just love these little ships.

Ordering the starter set and probably will get Slave 1/Firespray and some Phantoms at some point.

Also just because this has been playing in my head from driving home.
Spoiler:

Nerding out big time.

EDIT:
Since posting the Starter has been ordered. Along with a couple of Phantoms and another Defender.

Oh and Slave I just because.

This is some kind of crack isn't it? I... I... just couldn't stop.

Its more "crack" than you think mate. I have at least two of most everything (and some things I have 4-6 of) and yet I still buy something on a whim, for no good reason.

During GenCon, all the X-wing hype had me wanting something, so when my ninja grabbed me a Decimator and Falcon, I also had him get me another Tie Defender and X-wing.... why? I have no idea. :-p

HYPE!

I was going through my collection to make sure I hadn't lost any stands, or picked up any belonging to someone else or the like.

There's a guy at my FLGS, no joke, who has a collection like the pic above, but when spread out, completely covers a 6x4 gaming table at that density.

I can't even imagine why.

Plastic crack.

Around then I realize that my collection keeps creeping up in size too. :-p

It's certainly worrying... hopefully get a wee picture up in the middle of the week when the rest of my stuff arrives....

Slight OT: But I take it Attack Wing runs of the same rules, more or less?

It's the same core rules system (The Flightpath System), which was designed by Fantasy Flight Games, then licensed out. - Which is why we're getting D&D Attack Wing soon too.

The way I see it, while very similar games, X-Wing appeals closer to those who prefer much of the game being about the manoeuvres than the specific fleet build. - Normally I've found, you pick a squad your comfortable with and experienced flying it, you can do ok against something awesome (although, I've not flown against a Phantom yet...) So, the game may appeal more to the wargamer side of people.

Attack Wing on the other hand, it's very much about how your fleets built, how your cards interact with each other, with piloting skill more being focussed about getting the right card interactions into place at the right time. So... This game may be more appealing to card gamers (EG MTG), than wargamers (EG, Warhammer).

So, Attack Wing, you'll usually have 1-3 ships in a normal game. 4 if you MASSIVELY push it. X-Wing, it's usually well, 3-6, 8 if you go all TIEs.

There's only a handful of properly different rules in the game. - For example, the Bank Moves in X-Wing are of a shorter distance than Attack Wings. Also, a big change is if you 'bump' in Attack Wing, you still get to fire, even though you lose your action.

Aside from that, the rules are very similar indeed
