I just updated the OP! Please go to the bottom and read the spoiler thoroughly. I am open to all criticism and ideas so long as they are friendly and constructive. Please note that this is a very rough draft, so rough you can skin your zogging knee on it. Everything is subject to change.

If I'm correct, I should start with the visuals. You know, the color scheme, armor types, unique things about them, like how Dark Angels have robes, Lantern Marines have power lanterns on their back packs, etc.
What I have so far is minimal...
I wanted their colors to revolve around black, mostly. I don't want Black and White as that's Black Templar, or anything too close to the Alfa legion or lantern marines in case I'm called a thief, etc. I wanted something to be unique about them, I really like the idea of different colored eyes from the usual green or red, but again, I dont want anything /too/ close to other custom chapters. I also wanted them to wear Errant chest pieces on their more experienced Astartes, robes, and that really cool flat helmet from the Space Marine game that was sadly not given a name. You know, the one that had the Laurel on the head and had a flat face piece and gak.
If I'm correct again, I should then move onto the weapons and wargear and such, like customized weapons and all that jazz. I wanted them to use power weapons, like power swords and thunder hammers and such, but I wanted them to give their astartes a choice. Ranged or close-combat unit. Ranged would use Combi-bolters (if I'm using this word right) which would be bolters with an extension on the bottom (Like a grenade launcher on modern-day rifles) which I'm still deciding what it will be. Close-Combat units would use mostly power swords, shields, hammers and such.
A special unit that I thought would be an interesting concept was a marine who played music. I don't exactly have it worked out how this will happen, but I thought of something along the lines of one marine in a squad using the interface in his helmet if he has one, to tune his helmet's speakers and microphone (YKnow, the things they use to speak. I'd assume theres a mic and speaker in their helmets) to emulate an instrument like a flute, and the pitch of the instrument or tune, would come from the sound of the marine's breathing and war cries.
Again if I'm correct, I should move onto the traditions and more unique parts about them. Me and my boyfriend came up with some very rough ideas. I want this chapter to revolve around music a little bit (Just incase they fall to Chaos they go to Slaanesh ) So what we came up with was mostly inspired by Lantern Marines. They would sing during battles, sing and chant together, showing off their courage and to tell the enemy they weren't afraid. Their bolters, clanks of melee weaponry, booms of cannons and such would all be referred to as their "song of war". Basically, to them, the sound of their weapons all combined would form a song to them, a song of war, courage and righteousness.
Another tradition would revolve around the Adeptus Astartes' combat knives. I thought it would be really neat if their combat knives were less of weapons and more of ornaments. They would decorate their knives, forge sheathes and blades, handles and such, and put them onto their armor kind of as decoration, or badges.
Sounds simple to make a chapter, right? It's not exactly as easy as I thought. All of these ideas are rough ideas and subject to change, but why am I posting this here of all places?
Because I want help. I want Ideas, but it's not that simple. I think it would be cool if this could be a collaborative effort of multiple people. One person would come up with an idea on this threat, and hopefully someone else would comment on it and add or subtract from it, and I would judge which ideas I like best, or merge them. Sounds fun and cool, right?
So, Dakkanaughts and Battle Brothers, what are your ideas for this chapter? What criticisms do you have? Please go easy on me, my friends! I've never done this before. I'm new to Warhammer 40k's fluff and I thought this would be a good way to get me more in touch with the fluff and lore and such.
When I started this hobby a few years ago, I was in the same path as you are right now: creating something new and fresh, in the name of originality. I dislike copying or using already existing material in a setting which encourages creativity.
The colour scheme was a pain for me too, since there were many popular colours and colour combinations (like the classical primary colours - RGB, and black/white of course). When I went through my favourite colours (indigo/violet, orange and gold), it struck me instantly: there were very rare ORANGE coloured marines! Counting out the Lantern Marines, of course, but their dominant colour would seem to be more like black than orange itself. I noticed Lantern Marines a year later when I already had a bunch of orange dudes in my design table, but it didn't let me down, since the differences were notable.

Crusading Chapter - Currently under-manned
Latest recordings indicate a clear deviation from Codex Astartes as an organisation. No detectable Veteran Company - same applies to the Scout Company and Reserve Companies. Speculations arise about a decentralised structure across the companies, each having their own reserves, veterans, and a responsibility of training new neophytes.
High level of Chaplains detected across the battlefield co-operation missions with the other military elements of the Imperium. The "Reclusiam Guard" formation accompanied the acting commander Chaplain. It seems as the Astartes are intensively doctrinated to their Chapter cult of strong faith and Primarch worship.
Combat doctrines bear suicidally fanatic defensive elements. Siege warfare, armoured support, and veteran spearheads visible in the majority of the campaigning methods.
Personal heraldry and honours visible in the form of prayers and seals adorned in the armour.
Chapter seems to have a lacking arsenal in general. No bikes or centurions detected in any encounter, neither a fully operational Mk VII power armour types. An unknown variant is used widely instead (possibly a local manufactorum variant) - resembling an iconic knightly helmet.
I shall proceed monitoring the Chapter for the possibility of traitor activity, as I press on with the more concerning matters in their subsector Galileias.
The hellspawns of the warp shall not take what rightfully belong to Him.

The Chapter's fluff is ever-evolving, and has already formed a basic backbone of general stuff what makes it stick out of others, and how it connects to the rest of the uncaring universe in the far future.
I highly recommend you to google Astartes Chapter generators, and other forums where people have been throwing this topic ball around for years. I don't mean that you'd pick and choose all desirable things mechanically that sound cool or "fit" to your Chapter, but as an example - a reference, if you will - to see, what the options look like without breaking away from the theme of 40K.
Your current design of the colour scheme looks promising. Even though black and white combination can be seen somewhere, this is a scheme I've never seen before. Keep it up!
I really enjoy your chapter from reading this However, Mine isn't black and white. The Bolter and Chainsword painter is just really bad at making a silver.

Have you thought about what sorts of units the Chapter would prefer to use? Are they fully Codex compliant or do they favor anything else than Tactical Squads? Is there any unit they like over others, or are they stacked enough to be able to deploy whatever the situation demands?
One should also think about what level of Inquisitorial seal has been put on their heritage... As you say, many would hesitate to stand beside them if it was actually known. But that's not how the IoM works. The Chapter couldn't be publicly known as inheritors of a Legion gone heretic. An Inquisitor or other powerful figure has probably helped them produce a new identity and set their heritage as "unknown, but service examplary".

You're right, a lot of times a chapter name will often become a title. However! Some chapters don't have a chapter name that can be used as a title. For instance, the chapters Angels Revenant, Marines Errant, Praetors of Orpheus, etc. There isn't many though.

Yes indeed, we've named the Chapter "Sons of Kravus" after the Chapter Master.

) So what we came up with was mostly inspired by Lantern Marines. They would sing during battles, sing and chant together, showing off their courage and to tell the enemy they weren't afraid. Their bolters, clanks of melee weaponry, booms of cannons and such would all be referred to as their "song of war". Basically, to them, the sound of their weapons all combined would form a song to them, a song of war, courage and righteousness.
