How strict are you guys on WYSIWYG?
Would it be OK to use the correct model, but with a different weapon modeled?

Yes that's fine. Anything reasonable works.

Out of curiosity, wouldn't rule #4 make the assassins basically completely unusable? I have no intention of bringing them, but I would think some exception could/should be made. I've never heard anyone really griping about them being overpowered. Perhaps an optional 0-1 assassin slot if your codex would allow it?

Sounds intriguing, I may have to head on down for this if time allows!

We are going to stick to the one source only for this one . At the tourney we always take input to improve for the next one. Hope you can make it. Our last one we had 14 . It was a great event with no complaints , which is so rare for 40k!

Hey guys so far it looks like a good mix of armies. We have at least 1 Eldar , maybe 2 AM , 1 SW , 1 NIds and maybe some Chaos. Glad to see not everyone playing same army!

Can I ask as to why banning all forgeworld as opposed to using one of the larger tournaments allowed/disallowed lists?

Made in us
Regular Dakkanaut

Sure , I would love to use forgeworld as my wife just painted up a bunch for me. What I'm trying out for this one is to keep it as vanilla as possible so as to give everyone a chance. My dimacheron and malanthrope are looking so awesome right now:(!
Unfortunately 40k has become all about the most broken cheese list with the newest toys you can bring. People can't even show up for an event and have a reasonable expectation of doing well unless they are bringing a combination of broken meta. Allies has just become a plug for abuse and mid maxing. I'll take the feedback from everyone attending to see what they like. Steve will be the judge and TO so any input to improve should go to him at the tourney. We had 14 last time without a SINGLE complaint at our last event , how many people can say that!
But if you can please come , we would like to get as many opinions and as much input as possible.

Unfortunately after discussing it with the lady friend, we can't make the schedule work out. I will say though, making it vanilla does not necessarily level the playing field though. While sure things like dimacheron and hornets might be OP, things like repressors and sicarans make things viable. Top tier armies like eldar and tau are still top tier without forge world, the disallowed allies hurt them a bit but they still function at top tier on their own. where as the forgeworld being banned pretty much makes an army like sisters unplayable. Repressors are one of the few playable units, and the avenger is the only AA choice available to single CAD sisters. This is why I was asking if the idea of allowed/disallowed list was considered.

Also, this is just a clarification, if someone were to run a knights army from the imperial knights codex would that be allowed? By the rules if they are ran like this, they are no longer considered Lords of War.

Yes Mark in that case they could take them. I don't think forgeworld for the most part are overpowered. I think they are pretty balanced with great variety . I just wanted to keep this tourney toned down and get input. Hope you can make the next one ! Also forgeworld will most likely be included! I also have my Orpheus Necrons waiting!

Well it looks like the fates aligned, and I should be able to make it. Let's give this basic tournament a go! unfortunately I'll just be showing up with biker SM, as its the only army of mine nearly table ready.

Great to have you ! I'm sure you'll have fun. If something's not painted don't sweat it. The idea is for everyone to have a chance and most importantly a good time! We are going to fill up soon as I'm getting a lot of texts. So to reserve your spot just call the store and they'll set you up. You are first marine biker army I know of so far. We're getting a good mix!

Last night my Nids took some whipping from DE. I`m happy we`re doing straight up Maelstrom. From our own play testing I`m so far very happy with them , they seem to be a somewhat good counterbalance to death stars. For the record DE throw a LOT of poisoned die! So what is everyone else bringing?

Are there any restrictions to summoning?

No none , only thing is we are capping warp charge at 15. More so we can finish the games on time. I've played summoning once and I think it can sometimes really slow down the game. We only have 2.5 hrs. Per round. Are you on the list?

I think the most I have had in a game was 12 lol I am not on the list yet, still on the fence if I want to drive up for this or not.

Gentlemen , been getting a lot of texts and request for info. I would say we should be no less than 12 at a bare minimum and could max out at 18. If anyone hasn`t contacted the store please do so , that way we can keep an accurate tally and not overbook. Been getting a lot of good feedback for the format. After seeing some of the mid maxes , cheese and ally abuse. I feel this type of format can offer people another option for an event and encourage them to come when they normally wouldn't.
Personally for me playing against Adamantium Lance , let`s ally everything our codex is missing with Tau , come the Apocalypse allies etc. is not a lot of fun. I`ve been playing since midway through 5th. I have to say some of the stuff people are bringing to tournaments are brutal. In our area of North Jersey I have seen a sharp decrease in events/tournaments , maybe there`s a reason......
Again this is just me and what I enjoy playing might not be the same as everyone else. If people have fun with those types of events hey that`s great too.

I.E. --- I was running 3 Flyrants Maelstrom missions practicing for the tourney. My buddy brought DE and lit me up , twice in a row. So 3 Flyrants is brutal but can be handled (with a dose of rock/papers/scissors). But some of the lists I saw coming from LVO were just brutal! I think Rawdogger from Frontline had some very good points in his article pertaining to the meta at the LVO. We tried LOW at our last event but the games seemed to denigrate to whoever had the best LOW or the best LOW vs. the other players LOW`s had a big advantage.

Disclaimer: 3 Flyrants can be brutal too
