Re Xenos in HH: Alan Bligh was asked about these & if they'd make an appearance in the HH Books. His response was that the HH period was total war of marine vs marine throughout the galaxy & the Xenos basically all hid until it was all over.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

From Warhammer 40K Wiki the first Imperial contact with genestealers were the Ymgarl Genestealers in about 500.M41, about 200 years before tho first Tyranid invasion.

Theoretically nids were present in a sense, catachan has its "possible" Nid infestation, several other world's too, this led to the theory that nids may have been to the milky way previously. Nowt certain though.

This will show you exactly the size compared to the box:

It's the maximum number of hexes that size you can fit on there.

To be fair 30k orks and Eldar wouldn't be all that different even 10k years in the past.

Orks don't really improve their society or technology and Eldar are a dying race relying on tech they've had for millennia.

But unlike humans, Eldar haven't lost any of their technological know-how, and unlike all the other races, their problem isn't the technical ability to wipe out their enemies -- it's their extreme susceptibility to corruption by Chaos, and what happens to them when they die. And, almost all of them (excluding the ones of the Dark variety) have really horrible looking heads when the helmets are off. If I my head looked like an Eldar Guardian, Slaanesh would sound pretty good too.

True. I was focusing strictly on the Genestealers, but I don't really see a Horus Heresy board game focusing on the Imperial Guard versus the flora and fauna of Catachan being a bestseller in this day and age

I'd so buy a game called "Flora and Fauna of Catachan".

Well, it's conceivable that somewhere in the future, Games Workshop makes 30k xenos, but those alien races wouldn't have anything to do with humans, and the setting wouldn't be called "Horus Heresy".

One problem is that some of the races like Tau and Necron don't make any sense 10,000 years earlier (Necron sleepy time!). And Tyranid would be in the wrong galaxy. You could get a resurgence of Squats (doubtful), but the most likely culprits would be Orks, Eldar and Dark Eldar. But I mean, really, it's not like the Eldar would have been much worried about the Orks. I suppose something to do with Vect would be cool.

Another issue is that the appeal of 30k is the symmetrical nature of the forces (and thus balance). Introducing other, different forces makes that rough.

Finally, xenos simply don't have as many big, special models as Imperium, and 30k has a lot of big models

I think you are missing the point, it would be a great chance to show those aliens that got exterminated during the great crusade.
Orks are always there, but having an expansion revolving around the aliens on murder, or the interex (that fleet based race) or the glassy enemy the sons of horus loken fought or those snake like aliens Fulgrim fought on that slaneesh worshipping planet.
And as they are expansions to a board game they don't have to be full fledged armies. GW are you listening? free money!

Eldar and Orks were exactly the same 10,000 years ago as now so you can put together a 30k xenos scenario pretty easy.

The Blood Angels got their spanking 996 M.40 (Space Hulk, 3rd edition). And if the story of Deathwing is a myth in Dark Angel folklore from the distant past even in the recent codex this snippet from a WD (I guess that's the source) is just re-retconned. I guess there're no sources stating when they came, but some 'Stealers would enrich the board tiles for sure.

Orks yes, Eldar maybe. more eldar, more craftworlds even warrior aspects that are lost now, and striking scorpion exarch hadn't fallen to chaos yet.

the leak of the new Blood Angels character & solo releases of the assassins also seems to suggest that Betrayal at Calth may be going up in price (£115)

wonder if this is the 2nd printing and these are all due after Xmas (or yet another misprint)

It could be a typo or that's the new BaC price after the first week(s) of orders. This price list is from the December issue of Warhammer Visions, released at the end of November/early December.

From $150 to $185? do they have cash-flow problems?

It says it's a bundle of Tech-Priest and Russ. Nothing too exciting, unless the TP is new.

If the price of BAC does go up, then there's no way I'm touching it. I'm not going to support a company that adds £20 to the price of a product 'just 'cos'. Looks like I should manage to get one of the first run at the regular price, though.

Good lord!

The NZ price for those assassins is the equivalent of $43 US or £29!!

Who on earth do they think is going to buy these?

And a $65 increase for BaC two weeks after release? Just when I think GW is listening to customers, they do this.....

Unless it's a typo? (Maybe I'm in denial)

$320 AUD?

What the actual feth GW? $265 was steep as it is.

Also $53 for a normal human-sized model is fething ridiculous. That's more the double than they're charging for the old Finecast Assassins one...
$56 for a Space Marine is even more ridiculous (for both of them). No doubt the cost of Karlaen minis on eBay will skyrocket after his mini is re-released...

Those are some serious drugs being taken by GW for them to charge that much.

It is still $265 on their website.. Is this like the named bloodthirster where it came out then GW just sort of quietly lowered the price after we all fell to the floor in shock?

Or will it mysteriously go up on release?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Can't disagree there. $53 normally buys a squad for any other game. Ridiculousness, lol.

And $320...good joke GW :/

@ jonolikespie:
It'll mysteriously go up in price when the WD Visions with the repackaged Assassins/Karlaen and the new BA Chaplain goes up for sale. (So Late November/Early December? Dunno whether Visions is released at the end or the start of the month.)

Hopefully they quietly lower it again. I seriously doubt they will though.

30k Xenos background is great IMO.

In those days the Orks were a threat, but there was also trade. Eldar were Eldar.

But best of all: Squats were still there! :-)

Last year i thought is was about time i build my 1st edition Squat army (too many projects...)
It predominantly exists of rogue traders, engineers etc. (not the IG style troopers).
These are engineers that helped the empire design much of the imperial technogy of that time, including tanks.

Painting the Squat army went from low to high priority.
So i look forward to fielding Squats alongside my Marines :-)

They don't tend to do that anymore, they just price products higher as they release them.

Price hike?! Plonkers

Inside GW HQ:

Marketdroid: Blimey, these Horus Heresy boxes are flying off the shelves. Quick, raise the prices so we get more profit

-- month later --

Marketdroid: Hmmm, these Horus Heresy boxes aren't selling nearly enough as we'd like. Maybe they weren't as popular as those Forgeworld amateurs make out. Right, cancel the future Horus Heresy plastics as there's no point or profit here.
