Thanks! Using reaper paints and although their skin triads haven't quite been all I hoped, the others have been quite nice. The Car is painted using their Khaki set. I did the windows using GW's new gel paint. I kind of don't "get" exactly what it is supposed to do, despite watching the the tutorial.

In the meantime I found a pretty sweet set of Feral Worlders:

Supposedly they scale well with GW, though they are a bit taller and thinner. Very tempting!

Painted up a character for I-Walker's necromunda/gorkamorka cross RPG - Gorgax the Auzure Slayer! Pretty much think I will give him the personality of Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Plus a couple of others and started on the Arena. Too bright outside for pics though.

I like the washer woman, a lot of character in that figure.

I like the goliath gladiator conversion too, it works.

Where's the female gladiator form?

Totally in love with the washer woman, really nice model, and excellent work bud.

Washer Woman?! I'll have you know Agnes Rochvale put in twenty years at Manufactorium #23, survived three human wave assaults with the Munitorium Rifle Companies and still managed to raise 5 Emperor fearing children. She's clearly a hero of the imperium! Or maybe she's just a surly menial after all. I do want to do Reaper's crazy cat lady with a chest full of medals and an aquila cane like a soviet war hero at some point.

Thanks for the props guys, I appreciate 'em.

The female gladiator started out as a Mageknight assassin from my month long mage knight period. It has the dubious distinction of possibly being the worst miniature in the Mage Knight line - and that is saying something. But I like making new stuff and using up old parts, since I have a deeply miserly streak.

After generally reviling Goliath figs for years, I do find them perfect for this. Who knew I'd want them someday?

Very curious to see how the arena will proceed, it's a piece of terrain I've always wanted to do myself and I'm sure I could borrow some inspiration from your work!

An arena is certainly tough as a project, and I think it needs some thought. I'm sure you'll do an awesome job though. It would be easy to wind up with a huge piece of terrain of limited gaming use that was very hard to store. Round is also challenging to scratch build. I started with a toy hamster arena (???) I'd be saving for years for this project. It can be separated into two pieces so it can fit in a tote (a requirement for all my stuff), and I can change it from round to oval, since then you would have enough room to actually play some kind of scenario in it other than one v one. I'm also designing it to work as a fortress - it is an ancient structure designed by world eaters originally after all. Some of the parts, like the gates, are going to be existing terrain I have to save on work and space. I'm also not doing very much seating - clearly it is mostly a vid thing.

Right now I'm messing around with the railings on audience section.

Painted the Xenodrin Minoris

Once again Nihalac Oxide managed to spill in my lap. I swear, that stuff hates me. Got on my favorite t-shirt too. Let that be a lesson to me.

New Gladiators - proud of the Anglelous, since his lower half is entirely sculpted. Not great, but better than much of my GS work.

Painted flail dude about as well as I care to:

Though I might work on the shield a bit more.

Pelegarth Gladiators - I think they are addicted to the Pelegarth Drug, derived from Xenos aquatic life forms that they used to give to humans to make them tolerate harsh conditions better during the pre-liberation era. Makes them tougher and inured to pain. Most pelegarths are female, since the fat desposits created by the drug tend to produce a fertility goddess body type that some arena purists (and teenagers) find attractive, though others find it vaguely horrifying. Inquisition not that keen either. Haven't quite decided if I will use a unified color scheme on them or not.

Legs on the angel look fantastic, your proportions are spot on! Interesting to see some different skin tones and body types for your gladiators too. Why not have different armours for the pelegarth, but a certain colour to tie them together? Several of them seem to have sashes / bandanas - they could have a certain cloth colour for example to mark their union? Looking forward to seeing it all come together

Thanks! I was afraid the legs were too long actually. I may try sculpting a fallen gladiator holding up two fingers for the judgement of the crowd since I can't seem to find such a thing, oddly enough.

In the meantime, with the pound low, I'm feeling very tempted by Moonraker Miniatures - about 2 dollars a figure plus shipping....

Thanks folks!

The Arena is structurally complete - here it is with some scale figures and the pieces that I plan to use with it. Now we get to the fun part, adding the bits and such. I used window caulk to close all the gaps - we'll see how that works out, but if figure it is a little flexi so it might work better than a rigid putty.

Picked out some bits and got started. I'm using upholstery tack heads to cover the screws - they fit over perfectly. I'm going with a fairly spartan look. Several reasons for this: it is a big piece and would take a ton of bits to "gothic" fully. I'm lazy. I prefer terrain to not overshadow the figures, and I want to be sure it is durable.

Can't get any bits past you Kid - yup they are Pegasus gargoyles finally finding a home. I figure they can record the matches. Most of the bits are on now, needs fine detail and battle damage next.

Sacrificed some heavy bolter sponsons (A high end bit!) to keep the riff raff under control in the arena. Though the one spot they can't hit is the exact center.

What will I do when I run out of classic rhino top doors?

Eh. I've gotten stalled on the painting. I was going for a metal theme like the Gear House, but with such large blank surfaces it is just not working. Not sure where to go from here. But here are some shots of the the gladiators so far and a pair of new ones.

Keep at it! It's always tough with a larger scale project - its easy to get dissatisfied with how everything looks before you get to the detailing. You may find that once you move onto the more fun stages everything starts to come together.

That's looking great bud, if I may suggest, if you are going for a metal plated floor look, need to make it look panelled. Just would not have sheets that big, either that or add some dirt and dust, I would go with another coat of paint and while it is still wet dust it here and there with some bi-carb, or other fine powder, once dry, shake the excess off. Then maybe drybrush the texture. Also as it is a painted metal floor, what about adding areas of wear where the paint has been worn off and the metal is exposed. They don't have to be big areas, just scratches really. TBH it is looking great already, but I understand the frustration, large areas are always difficult. Keep at it, chin up, it is still looking epic.

Thanks! I'll try that. I tried putting some texture in using sand paper and a drill, but the results were poor.

Things are looking up for the arena. I tried the bakingsoda technique and it produces an interesting mottling effect. It is also amazing how much just a second coat of paint for a nice uniform, not streaky surface can help. I also went over with sand paper in a more random pattern to help make the scratches I put in look better. I've also hit on putting printed pictures of gladiators around the top railing, which will help break things up.

I'm also likely to order more miniatures shortly, which is pleasant to contemplate:

What to get though?

Support the FLGS and get some 40K stuff to play competitively in 8th? Say, a Tyranofex and maybe some genestealer cult figs (which would be useful for this project, but unfortunately might outshine my cult stuff so much that it would irritate me).

Order from Cool Mini or not and get the Tax Collector, a medic for my gladiators, some Dark Age stuff, perhaps bonny and clide if they still have them?

Or get things I want from hasslefree, which if I remember correctly has gamzone also?

Get the Hinterland sailors I want for conversion into factor miniatures I've been thinking about since page 1?

Order generic civilians needed to bulk out the population from the Starlords range?

I don't think Astropolis is retailing yet, and anyway, the thing about kickstarters is that showing me lots of cool miniatures usually causes me to wait until I can buy them to place an order - ie. I won't get anything from Carneaval until they are selling their current kickstarter stuff.

Went in on Reaper Bones because of their Dreadmere stuff - I Like cheap figures and I cannot lie! Even somewhat wobbly ones. I'm going to use it with some Carneaval to do the docks.

Made progress on the arena, but there is a problem:

When I said to spread a little stuff around the floor, I meant sprinkle sand or powder, not fluff, that is going to make it very hard for the models to stand on. Just far to OTT with the static grass man!! BTW where did you find the black?

All the ideas being kicked about sound good. I am so tempted to do a Bones, but keep trying to hold off.
