Hello I've been searching and searching but here goes.. in the stronghold assault barricades is an upgrade for a plasma obliterator, the rules for barricades are 6" long nothing about height. Now a plasma obliterator is 7 " tall if I model my barricade 6" long and 2" high my fort will gain a 4+ cover save. There is nothing in the rules to counter as fortifications use the same rules as vehicles so gain a cover save? Am I correct it just being an ass.. cheers guys rob.

I would not allow it only because you've modeled for advantage something that has no specification. However, if your fortification was obscured due to actually terrain we both placed on the table and I fired at it, I would then agree to a cover save.

I agree, modelling for advantage is bad sportsmanship, but if terrain is in the way, than cover save

I'd model barricades with the same heigh of an Aegis. I believe that would be ok with most players.

Well, you can put something tall between the enemy and your plasma tower. An Imperial Knight or a Warhound, perhaps
You can put it behind tall terrain, as fortifications are deployed with your army - so you can plan where to put it.

Agreed. However as stated what you can't do is purposely build something to attempt to give a cover save

unless you want to make your own terrain that is suggested in the rule book and you and your opponent agree on using it.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

There's not much of an argument here. You created a model that doesn't exist, but has defined rules. Also, you're paying the points cost for it. If it blocks 25%, why wouldn't it confer a cover save to anything behind it?

Is this an upgrade that requires a physical model? It it does, what are the dimensions of said model? If there are no dimensions or requirements for a physical representation of the upgrade to the mode then creating something out of thin air with no rules to confer a cover save is called modeling for advantage, which will not be allowed in tourneys.

All it says is " obstacle upgrades are small sections (each up to 6" in length) of battlefield debris.a fortification can purchase up to 6 sections of obstacles.. I'm not making a new model I'm using and aegis defence line. It says nothing about height so wandering if I could increase the height to allow me to gain the 25% cover save.

And the answer is no as that's modeling for advantage, which is against the rules

But there is no model?.. they don't sell a barricade. All it says is it's 6" long. I'm using an aegis because it stands up on its own and was thinking of sticking corrugated cardboard on to look like corrugated iron..

You're not using the Aegis as a guide though are you? The Aegis has 2 heights one is less than inch the other is 1.5" so you're rounding up to 2" for the tallest part to get your cover save. Talk about MFA not cool man. Also any conversion you do is against the rules so you have to have your opponent ok the house rule to allow you to use this. Given the "nature" of your "conversion" I doubt many will be on board.

Barricades tend to be anywhere from a space marines chst to almost the top of his head. Use the Aegis defense lines or the old orky terrain as reference

That's great, weird for a to to agree to a modeling for advantage thing, if I was your opponent I'd refuse to grant you a cover save from something that doesn't grant cover saves

You keep saying it doesn't grant one but it does its in the rules if more than 25% is covered you gain the 4+ cover save.. now all I wanted to do was square up the aegis where it dips in the middle that's all..

If terrain or fortifications... You are buying an upgrade that does not specify that it gives a cover safe therefore it doesnt

Which gives a 1.5" barricade which isn't enough to give your 7" building a cover save...

The height measurement is not in the rules for barricades, so it is not against the rules to model them higher than the now unavailable barricades (which I believe were released before we had barricades as we do now) or the Aegis Defence Line (which we are told are barricades, but that does not make all barricades the same as Aegis Defence Lines).
Yes, it would be modeling for advantage, but no, that is not explicitly against the rules despite what FlingItNow and Pain4Pleasure claim without having actually provided a rules reference for.
TLDR; it's modeling for advantage and a dick move, but if your TO is okay with it then them's the breaks.

Actually using anything other than stock GW models is against the rules. The rules give us permission to use Citadel Miniatures to play the game. You have to now show allowance to use a non-citadel miniature.

You're shifting the burden. You've both claimed there is a rule against modeling for advantage and are trying to brush over providing one by making another claim and asking me to provide the reference you in fact should be giving.
At a glance the rules say the Citadel miniatures used to play the game are referred to as models, but I'm not aware of a rule requiring us to use only Citadel miniatures.
