Finished! And photographed! That was a bit of a nightmare, I can tell you. Anyway, here he is - Heath Ledger's Joker.

Next month, I think I'll try to paint something that doesn't involve slavishly trying to recreate movie stills.

A Protoss colony world

Some great entries finished since I last posted. That Spitfire painted by queen_anne's_revenge is really well done, as is feltmonkey's Joker above. My own entry is nearly complete; the only things left to paint are the leather straps and the flames, and of course the base itself. I should be able to get most of it done tomorrow since I have the day off. See my P&M blog for the latest WIP shot of it.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 21 | Current main painting project: Warhammer 40k Leviathan set

You have done the face really well there Feltmonkey, good job

Managed to get mine finished last night so I'll add it to the list of finished entries. I'm happy to say this is my best painted model to date, feels like I've come a long way in a year. I tried a few new techniques on this with blending the skin, painting battle damage and blood. The model was a joy to paint so many little details made me really appreciate the sculpt. Hope you like it. The freehand didn't go so well on the shoulder pad, if anyone has any tips for me I'd appreciate it.

Nicely done MG! - love the checks'n'dags, the blood on the axe, and the belly-plate, and the base is cool too...and there's nothing wrong with that shoulder free-hand!...I mean, it's not "perfect", but then, that is some super-tiny detailing...I don't think there's any trick to that aside from years of practice...it still looks great!

Anyone else thinking they might end up voting for about 20 models this month?

This month? That’s like every month!

While I feel like I want to vote that many times, I usually manage to pare it down a bit. I run through all the entries and click all the ones I think are contenders. Which is a lot of them. Then I try to winnow down the selection as much as I can. I aim for 5, but it’s been a while since I’ve actually managed to get that low. Lots of awesome work out there, and it keeps getting better.

There will definitely be some very close fighting for my votes this time around! Some amazing improvements from challenge regulars, along with some excellent newcomers and the usual top-draw stuff from the people that are too bloody good (and Jan hasn't even submitted yet! )... I can see myself going for at least 7-8 this time round...

yuuup...I couldn't bring myself to trim it down to any less than 18 votes last month ...and this month looks to be heading in a similar direction - specially considering that there's still the better part of a week left for more finished entries to come in too...oh lordy...this's gonna be tough

Also, a quick shout-out to another new community initiative on Dakka, the Society of Fine Painters that Bebopdrums2424 has just started up. The name is entirely tongue in cheek, it's simply a place to consolidate discussion on the more technical and artistic side of mini painting which I figure might be of some interest to a lot of folks who enter these challenges. No requirement for 'joining up' beyond an interest in painting minis!

If I don't finish, it's The Expanse's fault. first the show, now the books. Totally worth it.

Just remember, deadlines pass by, but minis remain. Would love to see it complete, but don’t rush and do those tanks an injustice, just to make the date.

I should get back the the paintbench myself...

I agree completely mate, but to be brutally honest, if I want to get them done this year I'll be doing them an injustice anyway. Besides, I already made a meal of the construction.

I may end up just entering one instead of rushing, but I'll be pouring a ton of time into them over the next 4 days just to see how i go.

I also just had a minor airbrush mishap on top of the rhino, so I'm getting less perfectionist about them by the second

Thanks for the encouragement guys, its very well received

Nice work on the cloak GiraffeX
The skin on that model looks brilliant Bottle.

Keep going KB and all the others still pushing to finish, hope you get it all done in time.

I did the same KD, its a worthwhile investment if you plan to take a lot of pics (e.g family weddings, baby photos which was how I justified it, its not just a miniature camera honest!) or to keep doing things like this, I was getting frustrated that I put in may hours or work for it to not be shown properly It looks like the camo on the trousers is very well done but your right it is hard to see in some pics.
