And with other things attached. Let's have a simple analogy for you:
You're living in a shared house, and you've run out of toilet paper. Obviously everyone agrees that the house needs more, because the alternative is pretty bad. You propose that you go to the store and use the money for shared expenses to buy more toilet paper. Your roommate says that yes, you can buy it, but only if you also use the shared expenses money to buy him some beer and don't complain when he has a party with loud music until 4am tonight. You refuse to agree to this proposal, because your roommate is obviously playing stupid games and hoping you'll back down first and give him what he wants. Your roommate accuses you of being "obstructionist" because you won't approve his "toilet paper and beer" proposal.
Do you honestly think that your roommate is behaving like a responsible adult, and you are the guilty party? Or do you acknowledge the obvious, that you are the responsible adult trying to accomplish a necessary task and your roommate is being a ?
The Planned Parenthood rider is too much for Democrats as it appears.
Is there any reason why it shouldn't be "too much"? Is this actually a necessary element of anti-disease funding, in your opinion, or is your entire argument here "this isn't a big deal, just give it to me so I'll do the thing I have to do anyway"? IOW, is your argument here "of course beer should go along with toilet paper" or "quit whining, it's only another $10 to give me what I want"?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

No, democrats propose a single-purpose bill that accomplishes the job and republicans refuse to support it unless they add in a bunch of their pet causes (even though they agree with the single purpose) = republican obstructionism. It's manufacturing yet another hostage crisis as an attempt to get what they want instead of doing their job.
... as much as you wish it were so, it doesn't work like that.
The Bill was ready for a vote with the needed funding.

Or the water quality rider. Mind you, after Flint I'm not surprised that Republicans are trying to reduce regulation so they can (potentially) poison people again. Must have got a taste for it, I guess.
And really, if the republicans think that limiting the funding for sexual health clinics such as Planned Parenthood is the way to combat a disease that can be spread sexually then they have no right to have any input on health matters in the country as they are clearly so unqualified as to be dangerous.

No, the irrelevant bill full of republican pet causes was written up and failed to get the votes. If the republican party would like to support a bill that addresses funding for this specific disease problem without adding in anything else then the bill will be passed just fine.
Doesn't matter how you spin it, duly elected Republicans controls much of the process and did their duty with respect for the Zika fundings.
it's the Democrats, who cried foul over the PP rider... so, they've effectively prioritized Planned Parenthood's needs over the need of the Zika fundings.
Sad state, that the next President is going to be so fething corrupt.
As will the president in 2020, and 2024, and 2028, and 2032, and so on for the foreseeable future. Politicians are corrupt, don't act like this is something unique to Clinton and Trump.
Nah... Clinton is a special brand of corruption.
Trump is full out a narcissist politically incompetent nimcompoop.

The water rider was simply a suspension of needing to use EPA permits when using already approved insecticide used to combat the mosquitos.

So the Republicans adding on a superfluous riders that the Republicans knew Dems couldn't swallow and despite Republicans openly stating that they were doing this to hang this on the Democrats, and the Democrats then voting down the modified bill is the Democrats fault?
So if the Republicans had created the bill and the Dems added sections that taxed ownership of firearms, then it would be the Republicans fault for blocking it?

No... there are other institutions who can offer these help. Planned Parenthood isn't the only sole domain of these things.

Maybe not the only one but it certainly is one. The republicans would cut off a potential source of information for people just because they disagree with abortion.
Here's a newsflash, many of those pregnant women with Zika will be getting abortions when their foetus shows signs of microcephaly. Or would you rather that you have a load of babies many of which will die within 2 years anyway and have to live a pretty gak life for those two years just so the people who froth at the mouth at the word abortion can feel all warm inside?

I've asked before... where's the citation for this? This doesn't pass the smell test...

Still don't support abortions.
I've accepted that prohibitions on abortions will never happen, but at the end of the day, I default to pro-life.

No, I am pretty sure that is the definition of obstructionism. Kind of the opposite of compromise. It has all the hallmarks of opposition for it's own sake. Republicans acknowledge the necessity of the bill. The Dems were willing to give concessions, reprioritize funding sources, even give on some unrelated issues. But the Repubs wouldn't stop until they slapped in riders that have nothing to do with the bill and make it poison for cross party support, hoping to score political points from Dems voting it down.
It's partisanship at its worst.

So you're saying the GOP intentionally sabotaged this bill? Is that where we're at?

So you don't think that the republicans prioritising defunding Planned Parenthood, which along with other sexual health clinics could be an important part of helping people infected with Zika, over funding anti-zika measures is sabotaging the efforts to control the zika virus, at all?
If you have a serious health issue then you use every vector to get information and help out to the people who need it.

STAHP. This has nothing to do with "defunding Planned Parenthood". With, or without this Zika bill... Planned Parenthood is still around.
If you have a serious health issue then you use every vector to get information and help out to the people who need it.
This is about an organization not getting those glorious federal tax money. Nothing more, or less.
Again, PP isn't the only healthcare providers who can use the Zika funding effectively.

There is zero reason to defund an organization that is one of the groups helping with Zika control in the population highest at risk, there is even less reason to make "decreasing help" a condition of "increasing help", and I'm getting non-Zika brain damage from the stupid argument that this isn't Republican obstructionism.
Root for your damn team, but don't act like we have to shut down or brains and agree with your backwards reasoning.
Gordon Shumway wrote: @whembly: I'm confused. How exactly does reducing funding to PP help combat zika exactly?
It doesn't. How does not voting for a Zika spending bill with reductions in PP spending help Zika? Both sides are playing games and suck balls. A Zika on both their houses.

From now on I will agree with every favor anyone wants from me, as long as they let me punch their child in the face. When they say no I will blame them for being obstructionists.
