Trying to make a list of all the detachments, formations and named characters/units spread across four(?) books so I don't spend forever looking for something I think I saw that one time in that one book that I can't quite find at the moment. Yes, I know some of them are worthless but when you've been collecting the army for close to 17 years you end up with a bunch of stuff you may wanna try once for S&Gs.

From memory most of the Exterminatus/Deathstorm formations have probably been replaced/superseded by Angel's Blade.

The older ones are FOC rather then formations.

Well, one of the problems is that most of the Exterminatus/Deathstorm formations were terrible. Like, who uses Archangels Sanguine Wing or Strike Force Mortalis?

It actually looks quite decent. Free stuff makes everything better. Also, did ba recieve ds-charging terminators as rumored?

And I think the DC superformation has some potential. And Lucifer looks good.

In all seriousness, Archangels Sanguine Wing never worked well for me, but maybe it's just my meta, the point values we typically play at, or just the way I play. Or maybe I just suck I only gave it a single try (or maybe two), though. I never liked being forced to take a Stormraven.

Also/and/but: I almost never play ONLY blood angels. There are practically always allies, and Sanguine Wing just seems like a poor way to spend points for me. But glad it works for you!

BA had electrodisplacement access before this book. Rolling for random powers and praying is not my idea of a good time.

It does require a pretty big game, though, and be willing to take scouts and troops.

Not really. This debate has been had before (even recently, on the news thread), but the only place fulmination appeared was in a grid on a card that said that the discipline was available to the faction. There was nothing, anywhere, that indicated that any specific model was able to use the discipline. Now, it's official that any BA psyker can take it, which is good, right?

The idea to most magic-based lists is to take enough psykers that you can fish and probably get some skill, and then have some awesome unit to pair it up with. I think Electrodisplacement (like GoI) just falls into that category, because in the right combination, it can change the whole game. The fact that you might be able to get it also forces your opponent to ensure that they can defend against it. Fulmination has some other cool stuff for too, so it's not like you have 5 bad powers and 1 good one.

You seem to know your stuff about BA, so I'll give Sanguine Wing another shot sometime TY for the tip. I don't think I have very many VV modelled with stormshields (maybe just 1 or 2) -- something else to throw into the never-ending queue!

The Death Company one ain't bad. The Terminator one mildly helps Assault Terminators but the regular ones are still garbage. That's about all that's noteworthy from it.

I do agree that the DC detachment is pretty good. I like it and will likely be fielding it at some point once I paint up another 10 Death Company, and get my DC Dread (Cassor normally) painted up to go with my Chaplain and already finished Lemartes.

I also like the Golden Host, as it is a reasonably easy to field formation that you can (I assume) plug in with any CAD for around ~700 points, going with the minimal Sanguinary Guard squads (5 man) with minimal upgrades beyond the Chapter Banner and Dante to lead the host.

That said, if Golden Host requires the Demi Company or 1st Company Core to be fielded, it will be significantly less cool. I don't usually play with formations at all to speak of (My armies are Vostroyan I.G., and Blood Angels) so the interaction between formations and detachments still mystifies me a bit beyond your basic CAD+Ally, or the Baal Strike Force which I run on occasion when I'm feeling like running something different.

Going to try and get the book next week and take a closer look at it then. Take it easy for now.

Deep striking Thunderhammer Stormshield terminators, prior to this new formation, sucked because Termies are too expensive to have hanging around doing nothing for an entire round before they get a chance to do anything. Now that they can get into assault right away, their efficiency and therefor overall worth should be recalculated.

Same goes for Sanguinary Guard and they're shiny new formation.

I also like the fact that there's finally a tank heavy formation, though I'm not sure it's game breaking in any way.

The unfortunate part is I don't have the amount of terminators, Sanguinary guard, or predators (of either kind) to run any of these formations. Smart GW. Smart.

What's the chharging termie formation name?

Seems like a good place to ask, does anyone know if we got our rumored psyker formation - like the ones all the other marine books have? I only have the epub of angels blade (never again - it hurts to read it) but can't find it in there :/

I'm looking at the tank formation.

I'm normally a severe hater of Land Raiders, but a fast scouting Land Raider might have some kind of use. It can move 12" and fire three weapons at full BS.

Can you use captain Karlean as a captain tax in the demi co or archangels demi co?

Why would you doubt it? He's sold stand alone and in the Start Collecting box. He's in more places to purchase than Captain Sicarius or Khan.

Actually a generic Captain in Terminator armor with Karlaen's face is available in the Start Collecting or sold separately. He got demoted to generic captain.

And no you can't use Karlaen in the formations because he is not listed as an option.

I've run a terminator formation today and they did good against eldar.

if you buy them drop pods in FA slots, they certainly can.

Oh clever, because you aren't actually adding the pod to the formation.

BA terminators are still god awful for the cost though.

they won me a game vs eldar with seerstar, d-flamers and a knight today. Well, it was super close - 10-9 but termies scored 6 of those points.

How did they not all die immediately upon entering the field?

I only wish it was my imagination most of the time. How are they scoring if they are not obj sec? Or are you outmaneuvering Eldar with foot terminators?
