One of my work chums has had a mini of her other half 3D printed and has asked me to paint it for her. My first ever commission! If you've looked at my gallery, blogs or 'Dakka (Unofficial) Painting Challenge' (
TM) entries, you'll know I'm not a pro-painter/commission painter. But she's seen my work and is happy for me to paint up her little man. That's all the ego massaging I needed!
I'd never heard of
Hero Forge before, but I must say I'm quite impressed. The mini has pretty good detail and very little cleaning up was required. It does have those 3D printed lines every half millimeter or so where it's built up the mini in layers, but for this mini it doesn't seem to be too bad. I think if you were doing something with larger flat/smooth surfaces (like power armour) it might be more of an issue, but it actually gives the jeans and hoodie a little texture!
This is the mini as it arrived from Hero Forge -
It's 28mm scale, so you can see the detail is pretty good for that size.
The options for creating your own mini are huge as well. Go and play on their website for a bit - you'll lose hours
So far, I've got some of the base coats down. This is where minidavid is so far -
Apologies for the poor pics, it seems something was off with my camera settings. Maybe the white balance. I'll try to get it better for the next update!
