Subject: Dawn of Spire set made in China?

Just phoned Wayland Games and asking about when will they sell the refurbised Island of Blood set again and they said, that it will be sold in February due to the transporting time, because its made in China.
Can some one who bought the kit confrim that this is the case or not? I would be hesitant to buy, if GW outsourced it to China.

Any labelling on the box may be misleading. For instance it is possible for miniatures made in China to be sold as made in the UK if they are repackaged once they arrive here from what I remember.
GW have used manufacturing facilities in China for various things in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if DoS is being made there.

This why I am interested in the qualitiy of the minis. We know that the chinise plastic is not as good as they do in Nottingham.

Even back when they did have a lot of stuff made in China, the quality was just the same as far as I am concerned.
I dont think it will be a problem.

Gonna have to invoke Occam's razor here:
Guy made an off hand joke
Guy does not actually know where they are coming from
GW is producing them in China, then repackaging them as made in UK which would surly break some custom laws in the UK and surly some in other countries
Which one seems the most likely?

Actually it's a common and perfectly legal thing to do, "made in" =\= "wholly and totally manufactured from items made in."
Whether it's surly or not depends on the disposition of those involved I guess.

I bought the bases for AoS and 40K and those are made in China and I find the quality not that good. Not GW standard.
I don't know if this makes sense but the detail to me doesn't seem "sharp" but "dull".
I would hate to see how actual minis would look made from China.

The books are probably printed in China. As far as I'm aware the status quo for GW is print books in China, make plastic models in house. Open a recent GW book and on the page that has the copyright info and whatnot it'll say "Printed in China". I believe FW outsourced resin production to China for a while, not sure if they brought it back in house. I'd be surprised if GW outsourced the plastic models to China because they already have the machines and the moulds and that's the biggest cost. At that point outsourcing will probably end up costing you more money than just making them in house, so the only reason to do it would maybe be if GW hit their production capacity. The most logical explanation is simply the Spire of Dawn sold out like any other model and it's going to take GW a month or two to get the models cast, books printed and packaged up to then ship to stores.

Not you mate, just commenting on China quality concerns, if there is a noticeable difference it's because that's what quality GW paid for.

Well the BB box says "manufactured in the UK". Doesn't the UK have some misleading advertising laws regarding country of origin? Over here you aren't allowed to say "made in Australia" if all you did was package it here. Surely it'd be considered false advertising to say "manufactured in the UK" when all you did was assemble the box, "manufacture" implies more than folding a box and inserting contents. But either way, I would want to see some actual proof before throwing GW under the bus on this one because it doesn't make financial sense for them to outsource injection moulding when they already have the moulds and already own the machines.

I would doubt that models were cast in China, but just about everything else in the box, including the box, would have come from China.
GW's books have been produced in China for at least a decade now. Fairly sure the box printing is done in China, and when they switched to the individually cast bases they were Chinese as well.
Also on the list are most, if not all, of GWs tools and other hobby supplies including paint, and at least some of their terrain kits... The polystone stuff certainly was.

UK. Some have been made in France.
Current: UK
Prior to current: UK
Prior to that (pop top hex pots): France
Prior to that (screw top hex pots): France
Prior to that (tall hex pots): UK
I don't have any paints older than that on hand to check.

I agree.
This would also alter my purchasing decisions.
The above pic is an old foundation paint, I still have some of those and I would have switched to other paints completely if the new paints were still made in China.
