So, it was generally regarded as gospel that all the codexes (codices) we're going to be either Imperium or Chaos but then GW went ahead and blew that up with the announcement of CW Eldar and Tyranids coming up in October/November. I think it would be fun to speculate what the final two books will be. Maybe there's some rumor or evidence to suggest/support some over others? I'll start by making a guess that it's going to be Blood Angels and Orks. Orks because they have some gaps in their model lineup that are rumored to be coming (looking at you buggies) and that could be great sales for the holidays. What do you guys think?

Lol nope, couldn't do that with a straight face.
T-Sons is the most likely. the other one will probably be something small just to get it out of the way. Since Warzone Fenris canonically happened before 8th edition and Dark Imperium, they might not pair up Space Wolves (although that doesn't mean they're completely out of the race either). If nids are getting updated, then they may do GSC just to get it out of the way.

I think a new loyalist primarch by the end of the year is a tad optimistic, as they've been hinting about morty for like 6 months at this point and he's still not out yet. Yet 1k sons/space puppies does seem probable.

I recon Harlequins. They are a new range and are pretty much ready to go without much work.
1K Sons sounds very plausible.
Tau spring to mind as another race who don't need a great deal of work.
I think it will not be Space Wolves, I think they will save them for the Spring and release them along with Leman Russ in the same slot RG came out in this year.

I'd guess either an 'Angels of Death' release with BA/DA or Wolves and Sons as an opposition like Chaos/GK.

Space Wolves and 1K Son's. They have been present recently in the story and are quite popular. I also don't think we are getting many more new kits this year. The deathguard release is going to take a couple of waves, Age of Sigmar has some stuff coming. There is just a limited amount of time for another big splash. We might see some repackaging of things or some new bundles.

Codexes announced so far:
1. Space Marines
2. Chaos Space Marines
3. Grey Knights
4. Death Guard
5. Adepts Mechanicus
6. Craftworlds
7. Tyranids
8. Astra Militarum
My guess is that there will be one more Imperial and one non-Imperial.
For Non-Imperial, Thousand Sons are the are only Chaos Space Marines army without a book. Unless they are planning to release more Thousand Sons models in the future, they are an easy no-model Codex.
For Imperial, the only easy choices are a Space Marine army. All the Imperial Agents are in desperate need of plastic model releases, which I'm not banking on this year. I'm going to say Blood Angels, because we know they are never getting a Primarch model release.

I'd say Space Wolves and probably T-Sons.
With Leman Russ being released for the furries. He's the most logical loyalist primarch to be released next since he's more straight up fighty than Bobby-G.
T-Sons because why not?

I don't know about the last two, but I'd guess that Tyranids and Deathwatch would release together in November. With Deathguard/AdMech and Grey Knights/Chaos, they seem to be putting opposing forces together. That and they seem to be releasing a larger release with a smaller release. My only contingency is with Eldar and AM.

Actually surprised they didnt do CWE, DE, and Ynnari in one go... Tsons and SW sound good, though it doesnt seem GW necessarily themes the releases either.
Tau and Orks would be a good finish to the year, followed then by Tsons, DA, BA, etc. but that's more wish-listing than anything else.

I highly doubt we'll see Tau, Orks, or Necrons before the year's end. Those armies have some of the biggest internal flaws and need the biggest overhaul. GW has been listening to feedback and working hard at adjusting based on that. I firmly believe those are going to take the most work with the biggest adjustments from the index.

All codices are quick and easy to pump out. So far they've been re-printing the indices with minor changes. I suspect that the indices weren't even the result of an independent design process -- they just took the WIP codex, stripped out some special rules, and called it an index. The only productivity-based reason to do Thousand Sons over anything else is that they don't have to come up with ~6 Chapter Tactics type rules for them, and then judging by the GK codex they'd provide slightly fewer stratagems, warlord traits, and relics, but these don't seem like much work.
Thousand Sons maybe have a decent shot since it's sort of awkward having literally all other Chaos Marine armies dealt with.
I think about all we can be reasonably confident of is that Orks, Dark Eldar, and Necrons won't get codices this year, since "Chapter Approved gives these players a sneak peek of what many of these factions can expect when their codex is released". If you want to try to read into this, I suppose you can ask why they named these factions specifically -- for example, a few weeks ago I think you could reasonably have concluded that Eldar were coming this year because otherwise why would they have specified "Drukhari" as not getting a codex? So maybe there's some hope for Tau as a more popular faction than the ones named.

Not sure what you're basing that assessment on; stats, point values, and the like have at times been notably different.

Tau won't be coming because they are getting a release next year according to Atia. Theory is most likely auxiliary race being fleshed out/added.
The Tau units are in shambles from a balance point and GW definitely knows it at this point with the sheer amount of comments.

I mean, this is a pretty low bar, isn't it? The large majority of things, excepting the Primaris releases which are new models, in the codices have been 100% copy-pasted from the indices. Virtually all changes from the indices have been to point values. To my knowledge, the codices we've seen so far have been by far the smallest changes to individual units of any rules release 40k has ever seen. Easily most of the work in putting together the new codices has been in designing all of the faction and subfaction rules, not anything which scales with the number of unit entries.

It's the Warhammer Community article that talks about the Chapter Approved release in December. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/08/09/new-matched-play-rules-in-chapter-approved-aug-9gw-homepage-post-1/ It seems pretty clear that those three factions aren't getting a codex before Chapter Approved.

I'm going to hazard a guess....
Deathwatch and Thousand Sons. Both are very easy to pull out in a short timespan, involve next to no releases and are pretty compact.
I say Deathwatch as we've seen multiple pieces of Primaris Deathwatch art which suggests they've at least got some stuff done up for DW.....
