Why not use the 1/400 Gundam Collection figures. There are still hordes showing up on Ebay. And they were actually created for a game too. They have their stats at the bottom of each base.

Granted I know they are from awhile ago, and there are some series not included. . .

1/144 is, for some, a more satisfying scale.

And given the price of many of these kits, it's not expensive at all.

The Zaku FZ? They did, three years ago. It's a pretty nice kit, too. They also did a web exclusive release of the version seen briefly in Unicorn.

Did they? cause the only FZ I've seen is the 2008 kit, which to me looks like it needs an update.

Yeah, I just like the option of buying local and supporting my local hobby store. Plus here in my area 1/144 is far easier for a brand new player to get into the game, since all they need to do is go to the Hobbytown and pick up a few kits.

Nothing wrong with 1/400 if that is what your group decides to roll with, since as Macrossmartin pointed out in our forums, they are easier to repaint using traditional 28mm methods.

Geez, you're right. I didn't realize that kit was that old. For a ten year old kit, it actually holds up pretty well. There is that new Robot Damashii coming out this year, so I guess it's sort of getting an update.

What really needs an update though is the Gelgoog. All versions. They're woefully lacking in sculpt quality and engineering. I wish they had made the Thunderbolt version. At least then we could have had a modern Gelgoog and a new variant.

Might need to grab a couple then if they are still pretty good, they are fairly cheap and I saw the FZ B Type on ebay, they were 10 dollars more, but might be worth it for a squad leader. I agree though, Gelgoog is in desperate need, and the TB Version with joint covers could be nice. I bet we will have to wait for the inevitable Char's Gelgoog RG release though.

How do you represent infantry and tanks and such at the 1/400 scale?

Odd... I can see the Federation pics on another device, but not the 3 Zeon ones following.

EDIT: Moved the Zeon pics into Dakka gallery. Anyone else not seeing them now?

I don't do the little guys in 1/400, but in 1/285. I've sculpted Type 61 MBT's and Type 74 Hovertrucks in that scale, printed via Shapeways. Infantry will be GHQ Moderns. (When I can afford them!)

...well, I just bought 30. Hope you're happy now . What base size are you using for those? Would be needed to make any changes to the regular MSSk rules to play with them?

Hey, it's not like I get a cut from Bandai for sales of their gashapon, you know.

*Sounds of furious typing of email to Bandai Marketing...*

As for basing, all of mine are standing on 40mm wide bases I purpose-cut from 3mm Acrylic sheet. Obviously, commercially-made 40mm plastic bases will suffice, but there is also an 'official' supplier of MSSk bases and tokens - Scorched Earth Terrain.

Here's the link to their Etsy store:
https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/ScorchedEarthStore/items

The bases have notches that correspond to the Sight Arc and 90° Turn Arcs to make things a little easier. There's also a Sight Template (60°) to lessen the risk of argument.

Above: Dodgy photo of the Gundam fighting Ramba Ral's Gouf, with tokens placed to keep track of what's going on.

The tokens I designed myself, and I recommend them if you've got more than 10 or so Units per side. Otherwise, some actions and statuses (like Morale State) can become confused in the heat of battle. (The 2.0 Rulebook has a section explaining the tokens and when / where to use them.)

Sooo, what did you buy, Albertorius?

So, I have a question about the stats of the Type 61 Semovente MBT.

For starters, it feels kinda weird that it is exactly as brittle as the Type 74 Hovertruck, but that's not the actual question. The question is, is it supposed to have two 150mm cannons, or just one? It would be really weird for it to have just the one, and the price kinda indicates that it has two, but it it has, does it have any way to shoot both at the same time?

It feels like it should have two guns and Fire Support, TBH.

Fire Support is used to represent a twin-mount weapon in MSSk, because taking two of the same weapon is redundant with the way the rules work; you can only fire one weapon per Action, meaning the second mounting would never be used. So, a 'twin' weapon is only bought once, and Fire Support accommodates the use of both weapons in the same Action.

Here's a link to the discussion on the MSSk forum regarding the variations of the T61 and T74 that I use in my games:

http://mobilesuitskirmish.proboards.com/thread/234/m61a5-mbt-type-74-apc

This version of the T61 is a bit beefier, and has Fire Support. I have ruined quite a few Zakus with this lovely MBT. Both variations will eventually get 'official' status in the upcoming Federation Faction Book.

Ah, gotcha. That looks like an elegant way of handling it, all told.

Oh, nice! That seems to fix the two issues I had with the base design, too ^^

EDIT: Reading the infantry rules now... I think I'm not understanding something.

The text talks about unit size and the like, but I think I don't really understand how infantry is supposed to work.

How are they damaged? Same as Mobile Suits?
And if so, what Integrity/Armor values should they have? Or are they units that are killed when hit, or something?
How do they move, and how much can they do it?

There's no cost associated with them, either, unless they simply follow the same guidelines than any other unit,...

These are brilliant. And working with these figures myself, I can see all the custom effort you put into them. That line was really interesting, since the material they are made out of, the pieces really bond well together with a little superglue and model cement mix, so you could do all sorts of custom works. I wasn't always crazy about really dynamic poses myself, so I spent a lot of time trying to make a lot of figures 'normal'. I went thru phases too. It was the SEED figures that got me started, and then as other series got more and more figures, I would dive into them. I still have the Gundam Wing (EW stuff), Sentinel, and some Advance of Zeta stuff, but have let much of it go. Seeing your figures, is making me regret that. I must have had hundreds of these at one point.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another thing I collect which would be good for gaming scale are the OLD morinaga 1/300 Gundam kits. These used to be sold with candy, and back in the day, probably sold for about $1 each.

https://www.google.com/search?q=%E6%A3%AE%E6%B0%B8+%E3%82%AC%E3%83%B3%E3%83%80%E3%83%A0+%E3%83%97%E3%83%A9%E3%83%A2+%E3%83%97%E3%83%A9%E3%83%A2%E3%83%87%E3%83%AB&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjrzI3_1NzYAhXiTN8KHdB7CT8Q_AUICigB&biw=1920&bih=946

I used to buy these, then set them on fire or blow them up with fireworks as a kid. Really took them for granted lol. Well, found someone in Japan who helped my buy way too many off of Yahoo Japan Auctions and other sellers in Japan. When I went to Hong Kong last year, one of my goals was to find some of these, and found a mom and pop seller who had a few.

They vary in articulation, and I have to say the Z Gundam series is by far the best. They do get re-issued from time to time in Japan, but not to the degree as they originally did. They literally made a model for every mobile suit or vehicle from the original Gundam series.

I still think 1/400 scale is best for gaming, but the 1/300 SOG line I think would do nicely too. They are about the same scale as the pics in my link. Just not a lot of options.

The rules for infantry haven't been ported over to 2.0 yet. They operate on the tabletop like any other unit, besides the whole being SUPER fragile and generally only getting a single shot off (maybe two) before being destroyed by the mammoth warmachines called mobile suits. Here is a screenshot of the infantry unit entry from the old Earth Federation sourcebook. Just remember that in this version it will be 30 points plus the cost of the weapon (Missile Pods and their equivalent are 50).

Well... the rules for Infantry weren't 'ported' from the previous incarnation, because they didn't exist before Version 2.0...

Nevertheless, it is true that Infantry points costs and options are still in the process of being fleshed out, in preparation for the first Faction Books. There's quite a few Units that must endure this wait, but it was a case of the ol' 'between a rock and a hard place'; Do we hold off until all the Units have a listing? Or release 2.0 now, so at least people can get their Mobile Suits exchanging blows?

Given the game is primarily about giant fighty robots, we went with the December launch.

In any case, I do apologise if the infantry rules have caused you befuddlement. Quick answers to your fuddles:

How are they damaged? Same as Mobile Suits?
Yes, exactly the same way as any other Unit.

what Integrity/Armor values should they have?
Horrible ones! As NH Gunsmith has kindly shown, Infantry Squads are not long-term survivors. However, they do have a slight advantage with their numbers - Infantry Platoons test Morale based on their combined Integrity, rather than as separate Squads, which helps them to hang around a little longer when the stompy giants show up.

How do they move, and how much can they do it?
Infantry Move in exactly the same way as any other Ground Unit, requiring a Fast Action to move their Move Value in Inches. Note that Infantry have a 360° Sight, which means they can move in any direction.

I hope those answers help.

Thanks for the info, NH Gunsmith, macrossmartin! Much appreciated

In my experience with other mecha games (mainly Heavy Gear/Battletech), unless you actually field the "small" units the impact of the big robots is highly diminished, even when using appropiate scenery. It's just not the same unless you can actually see just how big they are

Exactly!

Part of the appeal *IS* the sense of scale - especially when using the 1/144 versions.

Otherwise, it might as well just be a much of "28mm" marines shooting at each other...
