Having seen it, mercifully forgotten it and just being reminded of it, I have to say "the clover field paradox" was the worst movie i saw in 2018.

It was really stupid, and essentially nothing but a dumb horror movie set in space. Just take a dumb, gory horror movie plot, replace ghosts and curses with "quantum" and "parallel universe" and you have the clover field paradox.

The worst thing was the waste of this movie. It had good sets, set design, CGI and some comoetent actors, and they were all wasted in a movie that started out interesting and regenerated into another "schmuchs being killed in a haunted house" movie. It was basically just a redo of movies like "ghost ship" and made even worse by the decent SF premise and look to it.

So, what was your worst movie of 2018?

Hopefully I get a a few good replies before the inevitable ban sign appears next to this thread title...

How the heck do I only pick one out of so many dreadful films.

Pacific Rim.
Halloween.
Jurassic world.
Rampage.
Meg.
Incredibles 2.
Black Panther.
Avengers Infinity.
Deadpool 2.
Skyscraper.

And that's just what my brain dares to remember!

The predator; I’m a huge predator, aliens fan, yet I snoozed about 10-20 min half way through it, it’s that bad in a BAD way! I would of been ok if the film was anywhere resembling half way decent, all I did for the rest of that day was drinking myself for a proper memory wipe. Nothing against the actors either, I like Olivia Munn and Thomas Jane; directing, pace, story was shittiest of gak!

Besides Infinity and Ralph 2, both 3 star efforts albeit with inevitable diminishing returns I've only watched 80's classics as part of my local Cinema club

Streaming wise Cloverfield was a confused jumble that felt like a squished mini series

Of your list, I disagree with 60% of it. I mean, yeah, they didn’t “get” DP right for his movie, but it would have been brilliant as anything else, the other marvel movies were awesome, Jurassic World actually PROGRESSED the series, Rampage was one of the better video game adaptations out there, and NOBODY disses on Megalodon!

My wife won’t be happy if she sees me say this...but Nutcracker and the Four Realms was awful. I fell asleep 3 times in it. Plus Keira Knightly cackling was painful. The ballet we saw of the proper Nutcracker was infinitely better.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The Predator. By far the worst.

I rented it the other day, rather reluctantly, and it confirmed my apprehension. The Predator gets my vote.

I only really saw a few films this year, and I liked all of what I watched. Black Panther, Infinity War, Christopher Robin and Bohemian Rhapsody were all pretty stellar, so I think I avoided the worse ones.

Probably Jurassic World, it was just a boring movie overall which is a shame as I really enjoyed the first of the reboots. I tend to be quite good at avoiding the really bad stuff though so I am sure there was some real garbage that came out this year I am not aware of

Going through what I've seen this year.
Black Panther 2 was okay, but not great.
Infinity War was excellent.
Solo was solid.
Deadpool 2 wasn't bad, but I'm glad I didn't go see it in theaters.
Incredibles 2 was okay, but not as good as I expected.

I think the only move I saw that was genuinely bad was Crazy Rich Asians. It had a boring, generic plot, a pair of flimsy leads that were massively outshone by every other character and a lot of dead time where nothing was really happening at all.

My worst was definitely The Predator - saving grace were the Pred Dogs.

A close second was Black Panther for just pushing the PC agenda too hard (a bit like the new Doctor Who).

Worst I've seen, albeit it's technically a 2017 movie I didn't see it until this year, was Leatherface.

It takes something really banal to actually make me stop watching it when I'm streaming it and therefore it's not costing me anything. There was one other movie this year I actually bothered to torrent but couldn't make it to the end of too, it I'm struggling to remember what. But if a movie hasn't cost you anything and it still isn't worth the cost to watch it, you know that's a truly bad film!

I was still hating on TLJ in January, does that count?

I think my worst film of the year was Ready Player One. Not because it was specifically that bad, but because I don't go to watch many new films and it was only up against all 3 MCUs, Deadpool 2, Solo (just edged it) and Spider-Verse.

Maybe he lives in Wakanda? No doubt they're about 6 MCU films ahead.

I didnct see "the predator" because of something that happened behind d the scenes. This one guy had been convicted of a minor sex offense with a minor and served a short sentence in nails then was labeled a sex offender forever. His friend was the director of "the predator" and gave him a small role in the movie. The rest of the cast was not informed of his past as they had no need to know.

Well, it was revealed after filming and the cast did a collective "Eeeyyyyeeeewwwwww! " and the woman star started whining abiut how she wished she'd known and would not have filmed a scene with him.

So, his scene was cut from the movie.

I'm not a fan of sex offenders but jesus H. Kee-rist when a guy does his time and gets out of prison he needs a job already. Peolle complain that people who get out if prison end up back in it while at the same time making it impossible to get a job, which is kinda important to keeping out of orison after getting out.

I didnct see it because mostly of that and am glad to see I didnct miss much.

I do think that sex offenders, like any other criminal, should have the right to do their time and get on with their lives. However, I would always err on the side of "letting adults make an informed decision on who they want to work with". They weren't mad that they worked with him, they were mad they weren't told, which is a totally fair criticism; they have a brand to protect as well. The studio also might have wanted a heads-up about that.

By the way, he was a 38 year old man convicted of 2 felonies for sexually grooming his 14 year old niece, and the niece thanked "the woman" afterward for speaking out. I wouldn't handwave it away the way you did.

I did see The Predator and it was probably the most disappointing movie I saw this year. After the post-credits scene I was legit angry at the giant dook Shane Black took on the franchise.

I kind of liked the Cloverfield Paradox. It wasn't great by any means but it had the bones of a solid movie, albeit with poor execution. Unfortunately you can pretty easily see where they chopped it up to force it into the Clover.... verse? Whatever they're calling it.

Oh, yeah, I also didn't like Solo very much. It was the darkest movie I've ever seen in a theater, not in tone but literally dark. The brightest color I ever saw was medium grey. The cave scene, I know was supposed to be dark but I literally couldn't see what was going on.

Really the only movie I saw this year that I really didn't like was Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I mean, the whole concept of all of the JP movies is pretty out there, but at least the others didn't have as stupid of stuff as people being 2 feet away from lava and barely sweating a little, or somehow outrunning a pyroclastic surge despite the fact that those things move as fast as a jet aircraft, or using a gun mounted laser pointer to tell a super smart dinosaur who to kill, or any number of other things.

The Predator was pretty bad too, but I actually enjoyed it despite how bad it was. Same goes for The Meg, although I knew going in just how bad that was going to be, and I do love a cheesy monster movie. Enjoyed it on the same level as I enjoy the Tremors movies.

I'd probably go with the latest Jurassic Park as well, which is a shame because the "revamp" of the series was decent fun. The sequel in the new line was incredibly bad by comparison. However, I expected it by the trailer, and actually went into the movie hoping it was simply poor choices for the trailer. Nope. Really gak film.

MEG was massively underwhelming, but so was the book, so that was a fail across the board. The soft-handed China-market adaptation of some movies has really brought them down several notches. I actually thought for the first time the film might be better than the book - sadly nope. Just really underwhelming.

Blame the cinema, this was a widespread issue but it was entirely down to the lazy, low-effort way that cinemas are run these days - they rack up a bunch of films on the digital projector and run the whole day, sometimes multiple days in a row without altering the settings to account for the specific films, and sometimes without even switching the lenses out when showing 3D and 2D films in the same theatre. That kinda-sorta works for bog-standard movies, but when you get something like Solo that uses a different style of cinematography and lighting it just makes it into unwatchable garbage.

If you watch the home media release on a decent TV/monitor it remains "dark" in a lot of scenes, but all the vibrancy and range that was choked out of the film in the cinemas is in there and it looks brilliant.
