BBC says there may be a 4-week lock down of non-essential shops in the UK. If so get your quarantine shopping done early!
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-54763956
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce a second national lockdown for England as the UK passed one million Covid-19 cases.
Non-essential shops and hospitality will have to close for four weeks, sources told the BBC.
But unlike the restrictions in spring, schools, colleges and universities will be allowed to stay open.
It comes as documents suggested the UK was on course for a much higher death toll than during the first wave.
The lockdown is also expected to include restrictions on travel and is due to come into force on Thursday, lasting until 2 December, BBC political correspondent Nick Eardley said.
Takeaways will be allowed to stay open as pubs, bars and restaurants close and it is expected people will be told they can only meet one person from outside their household outdoors.

We shouldn't need any shopping panic - mail order works and food should remain in ample supply; granted home delivery will take a hit, but we should have food on the shelves provided people don't go nuts like last time.

Trust me, as a retail worker, they have already started to go nuts like last time. The panic hoarder mentality is just beyond dumb now.

Supermarkets are essential, right? So there's no need to go out panic buying. It was pathetic to see in March and I hope people are more sensible this time. Of course they won't be, the roads round my way have been far busier than they should be on a saturday

I received a work email advising to carry on as normal Mon-Weds, then go back to lockdown from Thurs onwards.
So despite the UK media saying it's uncertain if Thursday is the first day - it is. I think the media just enjoy creating cliffhangers and encouraging viewers to come back to their sites to check again later.

Remember spring? Mail order did not work. And even if you lived in country without such a lockdown stocks were "what store has is what you will have".
If UK tells all non-essential to close who's going to do mail order? GW? They could be breaking law in that case.

Uuuh...you buying miniatures from supermarket?-)
Pretty sure the news is in relation to you know miniatures This is miniature forum after all.
Food stores would never be closed for 4 weeks anyway.
More of get minis/paints you think you might need in ready in case you don't get them. Which actually isn't that bad idea. Might refresh some of my paints I need a lot in case GW has to stop operations like in spring. I have enough miniatures for now I don't need to panic buy more. What I could easily run out of though is paints...And in spring was starting to run out of some of paints around the time before GW reopened despite doing last minute resupply that time too.
Albeit this time Finland doesn't look to go to lockdown at the same time so I don't have as much free time which means I'm not doing quite as much painting likely. Still. Nuln oil doesn't have "best before" date ;-)

Well the goverment hasn't officially told anything...Even if news gets early reports/leaks they can't exactly call it done deal when the guys(goverment) deciding aren't saying it is so.

Yeah I'm talking about hobby stuff. For many a lock down means a combination of time on their hands and no access to miniatures, paints, etc.
The larger implications for our UK friends would belong in another thread.

I'm good for everything except poly cement, though I'm slightly distressed at the prospect of not being able to buy GW Christmas bundles that I've put money aside for. Definitely need to get that cement ordered this week though.

To be frank - last time we DID discuss it, I don't think anyone was ultimately surprised that the thread ended up getting locked. It got political fast.
But yes, if you're planning on ordering anything from GW specifically, don't be surprised if your order gets held up as a result. Nottingham itself as a town was already put into tier 3, or "higher-risk" basically and so was already being more restricted to a degree.

As someone who lives in Wales and has been in a national lockdown for a week already, I have been fully expecting this.
Got plenty of painting materials and now apparently free time too.
Good things about 2020: Personal pile of shame is about 1 5th the size it was last year.
Bad things about 2020: Pretty much everything else outside of my painting routine :(
Didnt even manage to get a game of 9th in yet due to Rhondda Cynon Taff going into local lockdown about a about a fortnight ago (no travelling to my FLGS or friends coming around)
Looks like we are in it for the long term dakkanauts and dakkettes (is that a thing?)
Hope you all stay safe and manage to get any shiny new toys you may have ordered.

If rumours are true and lockdown is on wednesday either gw isn't somehow affected by it at all or it will slow down releases. Even dw/wolf codexes could get affected at least in uk.
Edit h announcement did come. Manufacturing can stay open but non essential stores to be closed so gw mail order can continue, stores less so. Unless gw goes beyond what is required production should continue

I just hope their manufacturing and distribution can keep going. Being in Australia it is a matter of getting product as we are not locked down, but GW want to maintain equal new releases and they locked everything down despite COVID not being an issue in Australia or New Zealand.

Well they’ve been told they don’t have to, so they shouldn’t really.
This isn’t as severe a lockdown as March was.
It’s work from home if you can (which factory workers and packers can’t).
And manufacturing was specifically called out as being ok.
So I think we won’t really see anything slow down in terms of releases much.,

GW itself will be fine, and may even make more money than before as people shift from spending at local independents to buying from the webstore.
It's the FLGS that get hit hard by these things. To the extent possible, people should really do their best to order through their local store, even if it's closed. They need that business to keep them going, and if it gets cannibalized by GW web stores sales, there isn't going to be anywhere left to play or host events when the world eventually emerges from this situation.

Have everything I need , its a four week lock down in November. Anyone that lives in the West Country will know that a lock down will be nothing different to normal life here at this time of year . Lol.
Saying that the wife did order some Xmas stuff from me from warlord games plus she hit up the toy shops about 3 weeks ago to get everything we needed for the lads. Seemed the best thing to do as this has been hanging in the air for a while.
So no panic here really.

Be interesting to see what happens with the GW Factory this time. The guidance is non-essential retail closed so thats the shops out but "work from home where you can and employers have to take steps to protect work force where you cant"
Presses could possibly keep running in GW factory albeit with polycarb screens, face shields and social distancing

It's worth pointing out that this has almost certainly continued to be the case in their factory anyway.
Legally, we (a steel fabricators) have had to have screens between all the office staff and between all welding bays.

I'm not sure exactly what the legal requirements are, it might vary. We have a warehouse (not the same as a factory immediately) and while we have distancing and masks in place, we don't have screens.
I know GW mentioned having safety measurements in place before they reopened the factory, though, so stands to reason that they'd be able to continue.
