So I had a go with new army and it was a bit of a mixed bag. I had this down as a close combat infantry army that’s just meant to batter the enemy. But it was actually a lot more shooting than I thought.
List was:
Canoness
Palatine
Dogmata
15 sisters with melta
3 lots of five sisters with melta
Ten shields and mace Celestians
Paragon Warsuits with multi melta and maces
Two lots of 5 Xephrym
Ten retributors with heavy flamers
Ten retributors with heavy bolters
Imperial Knight Paladin chain glaive and battle cannon
So I had game against Tau. Friendly campaign game. I got first turn, moved into center to take all objectives. Between multi melta and the Knight charging I got his riptide. Then, the heavy flamers took out a squad to 20 kroot. The tide wall soaked the fire I had going into it.
Tau shot back and the Knight got destroyed by fire warriors and rail rifles and exploded. Huge mortal wound bomb that killed a bunch of Celestians, the Palatine, badly wounded the Canoness. All but one of the flamer retributors and Celestians died to fire warriors and pathfinders. There was also a smattering of normal sisters going down. The hammerhead then fired and took out all but one of the Paragons.
Next turn my Xephyrim dropped. In hindsight I definitely should have just put these on the board as we were length ways and he was distracted by other stuff. I probably could have first turn charged with them. I took out all 2 of 3 of the tide wall sections. Took out the central pathfinder squad. That Celestian charged and killed the remnant of a fire warrior team. My Canoness tried to charge the wounded Commander but he did this jump back thing so so charged the third tidewall and destroyed it, Sadly I fluffed both charge rolls even with reroll on the Xephrpyrim who were lined up to charge a Pathfinder and fire warrior squad.
Then the Tau shot back. They got the Canoness. Took out the last flamer retributor. Their barracuda arrived and killed six of the heavy bolter retributors. Only one Xephrymr survived. The centre sisters squad on the objective took a beating. That last Celestian got killed. Some deep striking Vespid landed and killed nine sisters on this objective by shooting and close combat.
Third turn the Paragon took out the vespid. The Xephrum charged and killed half the Pathfinfer squad. The retributors shot some kroot going for an objective finishing them off.
Third Tau turn was a wrap with my last units shot off the objectives. We then went through the remaining 5 turns and with those moves he got the points to get a draw. It’s three objectives across middle of board.
Now, I know we’re getting new edition but what do you think the army is lacking or needs? I think if my units had got to charge they would have done good. 😄 Again, I was surprised how much I achieved just by the shooting I had. It’s a tough one. I don’t know if it’s list, bad luck or bad decision with the army movement. I mean length ways deployment with the arrowhead. I probably should have went with a full turn one charge. Like he was set up at the back and spread out to prevent me doing that: the knights movement surprised him. If that riptide had just been with the Hammerhead nice and safe very different battle I think.
Trouble is I already have a tank heavy martyred lady army that has Repentia in. Like, my take on the lore is the Repentia aren’t actually a Bloody Rose thing at all. They’re about rage, not sacrifice and suffering like Martyred and Valorous Heart. Obviously, Exorcist at the back could have knocked out that Hammerhead or a tidewall section. I kind of wanted this to be more of a ground pounder infantry army that’s just meant to batter its way through. So was a little irked I didn’t get to charge things; especially with the Canoness.
But yeah I kind of just want the army to charge in and smash things.
