So the Lion got Big E's shield, but I don't think I've ever seen a picture of E-money using it. I'm still a relative noob so I haven't heard about it in the books. Either way, it's a bit of a consolation prize, "Oh you woke up second Lion, he's a parting gift because you didn't wake up first".

\shrug. Its the Emperor of Humanity, who has been alive for tens of thousands of years. I'm sure he had some shields hanging about.

I like the idea that it isn't a "shield" as in a handheld thing, but as one of the novels mentions the Emperor's gear adjusting itself to best suit the wearer, it's the tilting/jousting shield from his shoulderpad that in the hands of someone else, is a full shield.

Which would require shield alter size or emperor was more like 30m tall.

It's both.

The Emperor's size and appearance is something that changes depending on who he's interacting with, the Emperor can appear how he wants.

Guilliman gets hold of the Emperor's sword and it adjusts itself to fit him, and then he starts to realize he can't recall what size the Emperor actually was.

The Emperor's Shield is a very important relic which we've all known about for a long time, and that's why it's very meaningful that The Lion now has it.

The shield was found in the weird dimension the Lion found himself in during his awakening. He was warned by a Watcher in the Dark not to enter the structure he eventually found the shield in as well.
It might be a shield used by the Emperor but it might also be something else entirely.
To point something else out that seems a bit off about the Lion, this is the holster for his Combi-Plasma:

I like the idea it's the sheild he uses d when fighting the void dragon on Mars. Like on eternity wall gate.

Not sure how legitimate that is but I like the idea of it.

The Eternity Gate is a stylised/metaphorical depiction of the Emperor triumphing over Chaos/Horus though.

The Shire(s)

It is established that all the legendary figures of the Horus Heresy had large armouries of personal gear and relics, but that the models and rules we have for them represent their favoured and usual gear. Many of them were gifts from other powerful individuals.

Hardly surprising that the Emperor would have a nice shield knocking around that he didn't like using as much as his fancy lightning claw or something. Especially as he lived through the Dark Age of Technology.

It’s a well known fact that the totality of a given person’s wardrobe is whatever they’re wearing that particular day.

Not quite. He was warned off at first - but when he had no real memory of who he was. By the time he does enter it, we’re near the end of the novel, and no such warning is repeated - because he was now ready for what it contained.

A shame the shield changes in size. Lion el' Johnson using a sword and buckler would be pretty cool.
